I’d argue adding the Dallas Fort Worth market (TCU) along with the KC market (which Kansas supposedly brings) could in fact increase payouts. That second market of course would mean the PAC is proactive and not reactive.

It wouldn't. Neither of those teams deliver those markets.

You have no idea if they do or don’t just like I. But it doesn’t matter if no one tunes in to ethier of those teams, the provider can still charge for them. It’s why Maryland and Rutgers are in the B1G.

Sure I do. Look at TCU/KU ratings for football games.

The PAC-12 network isn't going to make a dent in those markets, because not enough people care enough about those teams to add the network to their cable/satellite packages.

Adding "new markets and a few more decent football teams" isn't going to increase the payout to existing PAC universities.
If the Pac added Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Kansas and Iowa State, they would add FOUR teams in the Central Time Zone, which would defintiely enhance the visability of the Pac and give it an audience from the Pacific Ocean to the Mississippi River. Place Utah, Colorado and the Arizona Schools in one division with the Big Xii schools and the old Pac-8 in the other, and the games could be packaged throughout the day in four time slots starting in the Central and ending in the Pacific at night. As for the 4 schools, they are all Major State Universities, two of them are AAU schools, all 4 are good or great in Men's Basketball, and 3 of the 4 are solid in football (stadium, attendance, wins, etc.) from FOUR new states to the footprint up the middle of the country. Basically, the Pac would be more meaningful and draw a much larger contract in the next go around. Somethig to think about.

Again it doesn’t matter one iota if no one watches them, the provider can still charge because it’s the “local” team.

Well said

The PAC-12 hasn't been successful in getting the network added on the West Coast, where they have the dominant sports teams. You think they are going to be successful at getting providers/subscribers for second/third-tier teams in Texas?

None of the teams you listed draw eyeballs. I would completely agree if the programs you were adding in the Central timezone were noteworthy from a television perspective...the 4 teams you listed are not.

It opens up new markets. It does not matter if anyone tunes in. It’s the ability for the provider to charge for the “local” team. Yes, I do think they would be successful and it’s really the PACs only option if they want to add teams. 2nd and 3rd tier are secondary to first tier. The moneys in first tier.

Boy, you should lead with this line in your pitch to ESPN/FOX/CBS when the TV rights come up for negotiation.

That is your left coast biased opinion. :) I'm not saying they are major-major players like OU and Texas, but most teams are not. They are as good or better of a draw than MOST of the current Pac-12 though - especially East of the Rockies. Quite a few eyeballs watched Iowa State beat Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl.

And you should really learn how networks pay tier 1 rights to conferences.

No bias...just look at the viewership numbers for their conference games that don't involve Oklahoma or Texas.

Touting viewership numbers for a bowl game is fairly meaningless...but if you insist, Oregon - Iowa State was the 2nd worst NY6 game last year in terms of TV ratings.

Those numbers are not comparable though, as OU and Texas games were almost always on the Network stations instead of the cable stations last year. If Iowa State (which led the Big Xii all season last year) would have been on Fox or ABC weekly, their numbers would have been higher simply because more people have access to network than cable tv.

Man, I love the Pac. I've seen every team play including 6 of them in their home football stadiums, but East of the Rockies - nobody cares. Either way, the Pac has an exposure problem, and there is a solution out there. Adding four Major State Universites from the Big Xii in the Central Time Zone would be better than the current situation. However, if the Pac doesn't want to be bold, that's okay too.

As for the Bowl Game, I was just having some fun with you! :)

But But But, Iowa state/Oregon didn’t get ratings so nothing in the Midwest will for the PAC………..Derrrrrrrrr

Bummer there were not fans allowed at the Fiesta Bowl, as Iowa State would have had a larger contingent at the game than the Pac team in a Pac State!

Bummer indeed however ISU certainly has a great chance this year to return to a major bowl game. Great team ya’s have coming back.
