Texas to use non profit charity to pay Offensive Linemen 50k a year

Nothing is guaranteed til they sign, and tbh i'm ready for another kick in the nuts :(
This is going to sound overly-douchenozzle-like...but at some point kids in a signing class look and say "where can I go and start right away". And the schools that already have a lot of buzz will not get the late decommits. If I were Banks and I were looking at Texas vs A&M, Texas has more of a chance to start next year and be a standout.

Of course I say that and then see schools like Bama with 5-star kids third on the depth chart, so who knows.

This is how it will all end up. Every school will have a dedicated booster non-profit that will pay players to come play. In return the players will have to 'agree' to community appearances or something that aren't ever enforced.

In 10 years we will have contracts for kids to play at schools for 2 years, and it will be the true NFL minor leagues.
What this is going to do is get a lot of these kids into big trouble that can’t handle money. The tax issues this is going to cause is going to a problem in itself because no way you look at it this is income and untaxed so that’s 1099 income to the player. Not a damn one of them is going to know to make estimated payments and at least 25% will need to go the feds and state.

Not to mention if they are getting that kind of cash then the schools should be able to say you can’t transfer or this kids will start shopping based on cash flow.

We might be creating something worse than a minor league system.

Yup, starting the clock even sooner on these kids getting paid and getting into trouble. At least with "under the table" money there was no tax blowback. Now its above table...perhaps there is a chance for each schools accounting department to get in on the action and run NIL accounting services. :pound:

That and child support for baby mommas.

Michigan's limits what the athletes can do. I wonder if something like this would get banned by the school.

"Michigan is also prohibiting its student-athletes from entering into agreements in which it says could “harm the reputation” of the school, like gambling, tobacco or adult entertainment. Beginning July 16, student-athletes must disclose any NIL activity with the university at least seven days ahead of time."

"harm the reputation of the school" is pretty damn subjective.
well the way these players are getting this amount is by doing charity work for different causes (appearances, volunteering, etc). Will a school really say no to that?

Maybe the school should give every player an orientation of this things? I mean they gotta figure this out for the ones that actually go pro, no?

BTW at UT they all take a class for this sort of thing because even making Tee shirts or signing a NFT agreement, takes knowledge. Hell some of these players already have agents for these type of things. They are going to be set up better than Wild Turkey giving Bo Nix 100k, under the table for only throwing 2 INTs in a game

The first thought that went through my head when I saw Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy had decommited was "They bought him". (Dindy's parents are both OU graduates.) Muleshoe had left and everything was in chaos. People at that age are full of themselves, especially when a major university has its coaches whispering sweet nothings in their ear. It's all a recipe for confusion and second thoughts for the player.......and he finally has a change of heart which leads to a second "firm decision". Nothing in it is illegal so no one can say the aTm people are guilty of skulduggery. It's just the world of college football we live in today. I really hate to lose Dindy but these things have a way of evening out over the long term. OU just needs to ride out the story and focus on its mission.

Schools never chip in money to players. They pay stipends, scholarships, rooming, meals, etc. Even in the behind the scenes era.. money came from boosters or friends of the program to the players or recruits.
Won't recruits/players still be able to get the shady "behind the scenes era" money AND the new/legit NIL money?

Interesting tidbit. I’m actually sitting right now in a tax seminar and one of the guys has a client that plays for Alabama and he said they 2k for bowl money but they cut the check to the parents in order that the kids aren’t taxed.

I honestly didn’t know that and don’t know how this NIL stuff will be treated but someone is going to get into tax issues and it will happen sooner rather than later.

Its cool.

Another 5 years and CFB as we knew it will be dead.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and make a prediction. The SEC will eventually find itself in the same predicament that the SWC did when the members turned against each other and starting ratting people out for stuff that had always been kept on the down low. When you get millions of dollars sloshing around to buy/keep/sway/entice/recruit players it is inevitable someone is going to F up on occasion. My prediction is someone is going to get the red ass about something and expose another school, or schools, and that's when the SHTF. The school doing the exposing could even be outside the SEC. Just imagine what the people in Washington D.C. will do in the hallowed halls of Congress to investigate this nefarious plot to deceive [FILL IN THE BLANK].

Yeah well piss on you high minded schools. We ain't puttin' such restrictions in our agreements! We're in the wild, wild west so everythig goes.

Since a QB with a good arm can chunk a football from Sun Bowl press box into Juarez, Mexico, we are going to use that to our advantage. Our boosters can use profits from cocaine and steroids to fund and operate our own 501(c)3. We'll call it Blow for the Babies or Studs for Students.

Wait until the casinos for such for UNLV.

giving college kids a shit ton of money... what can go wrong?

It's cool, we will blame Jexas for once again bitching and snitching because they aren't as good at cheating. :dhd:

LOL,, could happen but the schools will still be happy, they are still making much more than the SWC could dream of

In regards to the taxes.. You gotta let these young men understand the responsibility right? Paying players tax free money is helping them understand how having money works? No wonder there are so many stories of broke NFL/NBA players.

Or we can pay the coaches even more money to teach them? lol

The drunk bird must be sober because this is exactly what came to mind. I know a lot of people that work for non profits. Some as "employees" and others as contractors. Everyone of them gets a W2 or a 1099 every year. And the Department of Labor has a list of items profits or non profits are supposed to use to as a litmus test regarding where a person getting paid is an "employee" or a "contractor".

Ever hear of this guy?The Hershey School I'm pretty sure everyone that the school cuts a check to gets except vendors gets a W2 or a 1099.
