We did, and the pass was barely broken up with a defender that might not have been there or been a little later had there only been 11

My only gripe about it would be that it wasn't Smith that initiated the contact. The DB put his hands on Smith first for a jam and then Smith just completely overpowers the guy. By definition it's probably OPI, I don't know.

Point is, Ohio State had plenty of opportunities to win that game. They simply didn't take advantage when those opportunities came

I remember thinking right after the flag was thrown "I wonder if that was on purpose." I'm actually really surprised that it took this long for someone to do it.

Imagine Bills vs Chiefs 2 years ago. Mahomes has 13 seconds to drive the field and the Bills just trot out extra defenders every play. Chiefs gain 5 yards every play but that isn't nearly enough by the time time expires

I was looking at that. Isn't there like a 5 yd jamming rule?

The DB jam was within the 5yds on the jam.

Not saying I agree with the call, because that very thing happens literally every play. Refs just need to be consistent with it.
I'm sure if you re-watch the game, you could find many instances of that issue going on that OPI or DPI isn't called.

Looks more to me like that DB lost balance after the contact and it cost him 3 - 4 yds of coverage allowing Smith to be open.

In short: Smith got the leverage on the DB and the push looked more egregious than it actually was.

It was actually ruled an Ohio State completion. Ref said they both went to the ground with the ball and then the defender ripped it away on the ground. Tie goes to the offense.

The few replays I saw he is turned on his side and bobbling the ball then as he turns to his back it looks like he grabs a hold of it but so does the defender

It was a close call, but I'd have given it to the receiver.

I don't recall, but was the on-field call a completion, then reviewed?

A review has to be 'conclusive' and I don't think it met that criteria.

It was called a completion but not reviewed. Ohio State rushed to the line and got off a running play

Yup. QB losing his mind on that mad scramble.

The most damning mistake was completely forgetting the clock started after the penalty and the ball was spotted. That's both on the QB and the coaching staff.

Come on -- you can't possibly say it looks like the Ohio player grabbed the ball. The reaction from the TE after the play told everyone if it was an interception. He looked to the sideline and gave the international motion to run a hurry up play with his hands, because if they review it -- it is a turnover.

It was a blatant turnover. He Ohio player never once had control of the ball.
