Look at Bama pre Saban, USC pre and post Carrol, Oklahoma pre Stoops, Texas post Mack, ND pre Kelly, Nebraska post Osbourn, Michigan post Carr.
Ohio State is pretty well the only program that hasn’t had a truly bad stretch in my lifetime. And it can happen to them.

I just watched the game Sunday night. When I checked the score Saturday and saw how close it was, I thought “Well, they doing this good. I shouldn’t jinx them.” But, man, scoring 10 points? The first time since 2011, I think. That Michigan defense, yes, it is a rivalry, but every team scored that or more against Michigan except Purdue. The Game was a TOUGH watch. We already knew Michigan had some serious problems, and it looked like they brought Ohio State down to their level. The Buckeyes should have passed more especially with who Michigan had out. And, damn it all, that kicker??? I am not one of those fans that say to keep Ryan Day, Michigan loves it. However, if the Buckeyes decide to replace him, who do they go after?

Ryan Day brought Ohio State down to Michigan's level by ignorantly trying to force a stupid self proving game plan that was literally the only gameplan that played directly into Michigan's only strength.

I can understand why you would want us to keep Ryan Day forever.
Like I said people get too hung up on the 10 wins a year, that's not exactly difficult with the talent you can get to come to Ohio State, we only play 2 maybe 3 teams per year that can somewhat match. You just have to avoid the bad loss, which Day did up until Saturday, but now I think he's gonna go into a total tail spin with that loss.
What good is making the playoff if you get bounced in the 1st or 2nd round every time?

The big question for OSU is what will the roster even look like in 2025? Not sure what it looks like in terms of remaining eligibility, so feel free to correct me. Howard's gone, so Sayin steps in? Henderson and Judkins are both likely gone, though the latter could return (but he's got considerable draft stock). They lose Egbuka at WR, but Smith seems like he's primed for a monster sophomore season and Tate also seems primed to be one of the best receivers in the conference. Inness steps in as the #3 receiver? Who even returns on the OL? It was loaded with seniors (Simmons, Jackson, Fryar, McLaughlin). I'm sure OSU will have a very good/elite passing game again, but OL and running game feel like huge question marks.
OSU looks like they lose their entire DL with Williams/JTT/Hamilton/Sawyer, not sure how the backups look? Simon's gone, but you return Styles. Downs is back, but lose Burke. As long as you don't lose Knowles, you at least bring back a very good DC.

I still feel like as long as you can make it to the playoff, you have a chance even if you have to win 4 games. OSU is usually going to have the kind of talent that can accomplish that run, though I don't think the OL would be able to hold up this year. I'd give Day another year, but he needs to just fuck off from playcalling duties (that or just don't let him anywhere near the OC against Michigan)

If making the playoffs and having a shot at a natty every year isn’t good enough, you need to move on, I agree. I just think it should have been done last year when he missed the playoffs
I mean, in 2022 y’all were likely a missed FG away from winning the natty after losing to Michigan. He’s in the playoffs. Might as well see what happens in em before pulling the trigger

QB and WR will be fine. I think Sayin with a year under his belt in the program will be a noticeable upgrade over Howard.
RB - We aren't lacking in talent, we have the #5 RB in the class incoming and peoples was the #7 RB in last years class but I think you bring in a vet to solidify that position.
OL is definitely gonna need at least 1 good portal addition. I think you bring in 1 upper level guy and then another guy at least to help bridge the gap here, the recruiting has been bad so I don't trust who we have on our roster.
I think the defense will be fine, maybe you bring in 1 or 2 good guys if you can get them to shore it up but im not really worried about the D.

making/missing the 12 team playoff is not the same as making/missing the 4 team playoff

Not needing to land a QB in the portal is nice because that definitely allows us to focus more NIL money on the OL.

I’ve said Day is a joke for years. Last year ending the season with two straight losses and no playoffs would have been a good spot to pull the trigger though

The big thing here is I would not be shocked if Day has lost at least some of the locker room, if they come out in the playoff game and that is obvious at that point you can't keep a coach who loses the locker room.

You guys love shitting on Day, yet he's winning 10+ games at OSU every season, so how serious is the risk in reality? OSU is one of probably 2-3 programs in the nation that can say that is the floor simply because of the talent and resources. I get there are no guarantees, but we haven't lost more than 2 games since 2011 when Fickell was the interim coach and we lost a ton of guys to the tattoo "scandal", so we're about as close to a guarantee as there is.

Day has to me proven that he will never win a national title in a 12 team field, the guy just doesn't have it in big games, if he was ever gonna win one it was the year he blew a 2 TD lead in the 4th quarter to UGA. We woulda walked all over TCU.
Most of his big games have the same theme, offense stalling in the red zone and settling for FGs, which end up losing the game in the end.
Now he has to win 4 games (without the Bye) against all at least higher level teams to do it, it's not happening with him.
