GAME The Game: Michigan @ #2 The Ohio State | Noon EST on Fox

I had the '95 and '96 games on my mind (granted I was little), but man I didn't think they'd pull this off. Obviously required some less than stellar playcalling from Day and Kelly. Hell of an effort from Mullings and the defense, Wink coached a hell of a game defensively. It feels like OSU abandons their offensive identity and are so determined to play manball against Michigan, like just stick to running outside and throwing to the perimeter. But hey, I'm all for Day trying to prove he's tough again.

Hail to the fucking Victors.

Day's issue is. He thinks his team is physical and they aren't. Michigan won today because they were way more physical than Ohio. It is why Michigan fans have said for a few years we love Ryan Day.

If you controller the line of scrimmage on each side, you win the Michigan Ohio game. 23 straight years, the team with the most rushing yards have won the game

Honestly, I think OSU would have won today if they stuck to their passing attack like they had in 2018-2021 (I know they lost in 2021, but I think that's the kind of offense that could have won today). Just felt like they were lighting downs on fire with the running game, especially up the middle.

Someone just said to me -- Will Howard looks like that kid from 'We're The Millers' has grown up and I can't stop laughing.

They had a video of Will Howard pre game talking up his team and he doesn't look exactly like that kid in the face

This is MUCH worse than any of those Cooper losses. 95 & 96 were goodish Michigan teams that just under achieved. Still unforgivable losses but This is a bad Michigan team that was also depleted by injuries.

I don't disagree. Howard's biggest problem is -- he doesn't have the arm to make the downfield throws. It is his biggest weakness.

Michigan could keep their safeties up because of that, clogging the throwing lanes. Having the ability to throw deep opens everything up, especially if you run the ball.

I think if Ohio had McCord today -- they would have absolutely torched our secondary. We had Makari Page playing man coverage on Emeka Egbuka -- Ohio still couldn't get him the ball.

They didn’t even try to throw the ball down the field for the most part. Don’t give me the “Howard has no arm” crap it’s not a rocket but it’s ok enough they’ve thrown down field plenty of times this year. Almost ever pass attempt was some <10 yard route crap. The play calling was play not to lose garbage. Of course Michigan fans love it lol.

You guys torch us if you had McCord or any WB who can push the ball downfield. Your only advantage on offense was at WR and Howard couldn't take advantage of it and even gave Michigan a TD as well.

Howard doesn't force defenses to move off the line of scrimmage. Michigan wasn't worried about Ohio throwing it deep. So we could use our safeties to help with the run or double a WR.

Inexcusable for Michigan to beat you guys this year. It is a shame if you fire Ryan Day. We love that guy.
LOL ok, you lost it as soon as you said McCord. He's fucking awful.

As much as I hate to say it, Day lost us this game. I know Kelly was calling the plays but my god, Howard was working the michigan secondary. Literally his only bad throws were the two picks. But we kept trying to force the run because Day wanted to establish it like a fucking moron. When he just let Howard do his thing we repeatedly moved the ball, but at the end of the day we didn't win and we didn't deserve to. Congrats to Moore, this is going to keep him there for a long time.

On to the CFP.

One of the most surprising things for me is how little they used Howard's legs. I really thought that would be a thing Michigan would have to account for, especially in a Chip Kelly offense. I wonder if Howard's injury played a role in that, I wouldn't blame them for trying to protect him after those hits. I really think the lack of designed QB runs the last four years has really held OSU back

If we had McCord playing today, with as much as we saw Howard running, you guys would have killed us. He would have taken at minimum 9 sacks.

McCord had a good game against a abysmal Miami defense but he’s had some stinkers this year. The 5 INT game vs Pitt and he basically cost them the game vs Stanford as well. With the game plan laid out today McCord woulda struggled

Howard is not good at the read part of the zone read runs. They tried a couple and he made the wrong read each time.

Howard getting hit definitely played a part, that's for sure. He wasn't healthy after that. They just never properly adjusted after that in terms of letting him run and they tried running up the gut more, which was never working, and it killed them.

We would be 8-4 at best with McCord this year. He's a horrific QB.

I will say, I thought Kirk called some good passing plays today. Unfortunately Warren made some horrendous throws, especially on the two interceptions. The Hansen underthrow on the sideline was terrible too

I still think Day was overriding and calling the majority of plays in this game. If not he’s still the head coach and should stepped in and told chip to fuck off with how things were being ran and clearly not working. But that “let’s prove we can be tough” game plan reeks of Day incompetence
