Nebraska Cornhuskers The Official 10000 posts for a Husker Conference Championship

Husker Men’s Basketball took a crap against Indiana.

Yep. I had to stop watching when I saw them go back to old bad habits. Not sure if it was no Sam, but hopefully they figure it out this weekend.

The old school style Wisconsin, Michigan, and Iowa will bum rush the ball right up our gazoo with that pass defense alignment. Just my worth less than 2 cents. I’ll just wait and see if the pass rush gets better. I have seen teams make it work but then again I have seen every team not named Nebraska be able to successfully rush the ball and pass block.

Not wowed but I know nothing about him. I see in the tweet, it talks about his recruiting prowess, I somewhat feel Rhules going for recruiters. Hopefully evaluate talent better and get guys that fit the scheme better than we've been doing. Then develop better.

I'm not familiar with a 3-3-5 scheme, but I'd think they would have ways to deal with the run first offenses of the Big. Sounds like it goes with speed and disruptive over really controlling the line. Not sure how it's much different than just playing 3-4 with the 4th LB being a hard hitting Safety.

It frees up speedy blitzing DBs and gives extra defenders against the pass but it isn’t good against heavy sets with 2 TEs and a FB as seen often in the B1G.

well the good news, Fickel went with Longo’s air-raid offense, so this defense is better for that.

Here's the thing, i'm going to point at the Iowa game or first half of Illinois. OCs, even in run heavy offenses can't help but want to throw the ball sometimes. Even if churning 4-5 yards a run will get you a TD, they just have to take that shot on 1st down to "keep the defense off balance". it's literally what kept us in the those games imo this past year. so, until coordinators are smart enough to stick with what works until they stop it, i just feel like any defensive scheme will work if you can get the right players.

Wisconsin with an air-raid offense. OMG!!

So the Nebraska 3 3 5 was preemptive?

Graham Mertz entering the transfer portal makes sense now. The guy couldn’t hit the broadside of a battleship with a handful of rocks, but he looked like a young Tom Brady against the Huskers.

There are different 3-3-5 defenses. White’s 3-3-5 is based on Rocky Long’s defense which doesn’t have too much problem stopping the run. Zach Arnett at Mississippi State is another who runs this style and they finished 5th in rushing defense in the SEC…they can play tough. Compare that to the 3-3-5 ran by Iowa State or TCU in the Patterson days that was designed to stop the spread and it is quite a bit different. One of the best rover players for Rocky Long was “safety” Brian Urlacher lol…they can bring the boom and get a lot of players in the box to stop the run vs. pro style rushing attacks.

We have to hope for the best but it’s hard not to expect the worst.

Husker men’s hoops barely lost to #4 Purdue today. Rhule had a nice chat on air at halftime on the B1G broadcast.

I mean given Nebraska’s recent history, it’s fair to wonder if the hire is going to work generally speaking, but this is one of those cases where the narrative (“Aaahh! The 3-3-5 can’t work in the B1G!”) doesn’t account for the actual scheme and the fact that not all 3-3-5 defenses are created equal.

Saturday Husker Women’s basketball trailed Samford at the half but went on to win big.

Max Duggin (TCU) from Lewis Central/Council Bluffs - who was not recruited by Nebraska nor Iowa - finished 2nd in the Heisman trophy voting.

I thought Duggin chose TCU over Nebraska?

He was I stand corrected but I thought he was always going to TCU as they offered him early in HS. I mean Duggan was recruited by Minnesota, Ohio State, & Notre Dame so was he really considering the Huskers especially after Frost went after McCaffery at QB and AM was established as Frost’s #1 guy.
