Nebraska Cornhuskers The Official 10000 posts for a Husker Conference Championship

Zach Duval's likely next.

Senseless to keep a S&C guy around who's O and D linemen struggle with FCS and G5's.
First series in the 2nd half OU went hurry up offense and Garret Nelson was gassed/hands on hips after 4 plays. Duvall was an Eppley guy, I wonder why it has gone so bad? Nebraska players look like little kids out there getting whipped over and over.

Just remembering Pederson going hard after Houston Nutt at Arkansas makes me cringe.

Back when Osborne coached over at Hawaii, good ole TO was heading out for his morning run at 5am and he happened on Turner Gill and a couple other guy coming in from the night before. Lyle Bremser said on the radio that Turner Gill was under the weather. Turner had to come into the game after half time to beat Hawaii. Lyle Bremser was drunk that whole Hawaii trip also.

Also saw this stuff coming out. Just sickens me that he didn't wisen up after like year 2. Add structure, add tackling, more 1v1 work. Even if you are going to roll it back with same coaches, you gotta change your approach constantly.

Mickey isn't really going to get a fair evaluation if the situation is as bad as it seems. But I'd much prefer an experienced defensive guy. We need to build a D like Wiscy/Iowa, as that will keep you in the game. I'd prefer an offense like we saw out of OU the other day, read option, quick, QB run, RPO, what I thought we were getting with SF.

Yea, conditioning has not looked good. But I blame technique on position coaches, hard to tell if it's a strength problem. I watched the trench play really closely during OU v NU, and as I said above, just a huge difference on the way the lines played and how much better their lines were coached.

Well then it's pop warner technique on both O and D lines. It would mean both line coaches are two of the worst in CFB. What are the odds of that?

The reason I say S&C is the lines wear down depending on quality of opponent.

Both lines lasted a quarter against OU. It was the 2nd Q that OU owned the LOS on both sides of the ball. They shut Nebraska's offense down and moved the ball at will against Nebraska's defense. They beat Nebraska worse than they beat UTEP and Kent St.
Of course OU has a better S&C program than UTEP or Kent St.

Line play looks better against FCS late where it takes somewhere around the middle of the 3rd Q for the FCS lines to finally start wearing down. Those are always home games where Nebraska can substitute liberally and keep fresher guys in. The FCS team has a limited travel roster and shouldn't have near the S&C program.
The North Dakota game was tied at 7 at half.
It was 24-17 at the end of the 3rd Q
Nebraska won the 4th Q 14-0 tyo make the final 38-17.
Did Nebraska lines change technique in the 4th Q?

Nebraska's lines wore down late in both the Northwestern and Georgia Southern games. Did Northwestern and Georgia Southern lines change technique late in the 3rd Q's?
Northwestern lost to Duke and Southern Illinois.

Because either other teams have Eppley components of their S&C programs, or what worked in the 60s - 90s is outdated.

You can provide a world class weight room and dining table, but players can spend their stipends on Little Caesars Hot & Ready's and do bare minimums in the weight room.

i.e. You can lead a horse to water. but you can't make it drink.

I just saw an ad for Big Mac Sack Mondays. I guess we all starvin Marvins this season.

I really stunned they went four f'ing years without tackling in practice. Blows my mind !!

I’d argue that it’s their job to get the horse to drink. That’s at least half the battle…motivating the team to do the right thing.

No argument from me.

I'd made comment before the NW game that the lines weren't in shape. They were walking as a group into a restaurant. They looked big but soft. It was obvious they weren't gonna get it done.

When Frost said the linemen were puking 15 - 20 times per practice in the fall I thought they must be out of shape.
S&C starts in January. It's obvious they waited until August to put in any effort.

That's too late.

I was on the road headed to Nashville on Saturday and was listening to the game on the radio. Turned it off at halftime because it was so bad. Can't imagine what it looked like on tv.

I thought rock bottom was the Riley years. Sadly, I don't think we've found rock bottom yet.

this is rock bottom has to be.

I can't imagine this team can win enough to get Mickey the job...but it will be a better program when he leaves then what he got.

Just got done watching the presser.
I don't know if Mickey is the long term solution or not, but man, I sure do like what he says and how he says it.

He takes more questions than Frost and is honestly direct with his answers. Ajay Allen is out for the year due to injury\surgery. Coach Joseph is more professional than 2 of the last 3 coaches. They are out recruiting like they will still be here next year. Here is my top two answers today.

Gentlemen. Coach Mendenhall started a podcast at the beginning of the month. These clips are worth watching to gauge him as a candidate. This is the coach of BYU that pulled off the Hail Mary, Riley's first game. His approach at Virginia was earn it. Players were given nothing but white jerseys at the start of camp, they had to earn the right to wear the school logo. I've watched all three podcasts, and since Urban, and Fickell are likely longshots, Mendenhall is likely my second best after Aranda.
