The one Candy/Cake you have to have at Christmas

Someone I know gave me a container of waffle cookies like this last year. I'd never had them before and I can't remember if they were Italian treat or whatever ethnicity, but they were covered with a dusting of confectionery sugar and they were so fuggin good. Talk about making a mess when you take a bite though, that sugar was flying all over the place.

Yummy.

Have you ever had the dutch version? Stroopwafels! They have a thin layer of caramel in the middle (there are different middles available) and you place it over your hot coffee or tea and it so it gets warm & melty. Yum!

I get a tin of these every year from my assistant at work. Some Italian joint in Baltimore. Espiranza calls them "fancy cookies"

My grandparents were poor, but always went out of their way to make the holidays special. My grandmother would hand-make a tin of Christmas candy for each of her nine grandchildren, each one individualized to that child’s favorites. Mine were peanut butter patties and caramel turtles. Unfortunately, those particular candies haven’t been available for many years.
