The remaining pieces, where do they land?

I've never gotten this argument because streaming companies also bundle conference networks.
On HULU I've got BTN, SEC, and ACC.

HULU knows who's watching what where, and the conference networks can negotiate accordingly.

You can bet USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington fans are gonna watch BTN now more than they ever have.
Exactly - it' s not like Hulu, YoutubeTV and the like get BTN for free.

Bingo

Regardless of the medium (Cable, Satellite, Streaming), people have to pay for all of the content. HULU/YouTube etc. are not an 'a la carte' system so it's not like peeps can say "No, I don't want BTN".

Unless one cuts the cord completely and goes over-the-air broadcast only (FOX, ABC, CBS, NBC), then they are paying for BTN whether they watch it or not.

Unless you're cutting the 'internet' cord too, you're not truly cutting the cord.

They have Maryland - which covers Maryland, DC and most of Virginia - it doesn't really increase the market enough to move the needle.
I'm going to have to disagree with you. No one cares about Maryland football. They had the 2nd worst attendance in the B1G last season, and that includes a home game with Ohio State. So, logically no one is really tuning in to watch specifically them. VT on the other hand, was 98% at capacity for the year. That's with them finishing with a 3-8 record. They have a huge fanbase.

From 2015-2019, VT games averaged 1.26m viewers per game. Same time period, Maryland averaged 681k viewers.

That has nothing to do with the cost per household for a cable or streaming service.

This article helps explain it:

The short of it is that people used to buy cable to get TV period now there is a large segment of the population that has forgone live TV altogether and get their news and entertainment through other streaming avenues. So in the past, if a gamer who could care less about sports bought cable then the conferences got a piece of that regardless but if that same gamer cuts the cord and doesn't subscribe to any Live TV venue then the conferences get nothing. You do this in the millions and it adds up quickly.

Sports channels have a decreasing captive market moving forward. The sports fans will always pay but we have been subsidized by the non-sports fans as well and that is steadily decreasing.

Aren't the majority of people cutting the cable and satellite cords going to streaming Youtube TV, HULU, etc though?

In those cases the SEC, BTN, and ACC networks are bundled.

Not to mention those streaming services will just charge more like the cable and satellite companies did when people started 'cutting the cord'.

A lot of people are not getting Live TV they are buying those antenna contraptions and watching free network mixed with subscriptions like Netflix and Paramount.

We can’t comprehend not having access to sports but there are a lot of people that don’t have our passion. If it wasn’t for sports I wouldn’t be paying for Live TV.

There is also a small, but growing numerous of people that will not pay for subscription TV. I am one of them If I can't get a game I want to watch on a broadcast channel, I don't watch it. Not that hard.

However, I would look into a pay per view setup.

This is me. Or was.

We've never had cable in 19 years of marriage, we used a digital antenna and paid for a few streams like Netflix and Disney+. Now that the kids are older and barely home anymore, I dropped several of the streams and picked up Hulu (which comes with Disney, anyway). I was actually going to go with Sling but they get terrible reviews on their customer service.

I’m the opposite. Put an Auburn football or basketball game on a channel I don’t get and I go ballistic.

It used to happen when a rain delay happened and the Auburn game would get moved the SEC alternate channel which HULU doesn’t carry. However since I bundled HULU, Disney and ESPN+ I don’t have that issue because I can find it now on ESPN+.

They know how to get my money.

I have a $25 digital antenna that I watch FOX, ABC, CBS, and NBC on. The picture is actually better than cable, satellite, and streaming and there's no delay. Those local channels are on HULU but I never go to them.

I like the fact that the Big 10 went to broadcast TV since they get the better viewership anyway. Advertising dollars pays the bills on those contracts.

So you're saying ESPN who the SEC relies on for everything is getting cut by many?

Yep

I’m betting it’s up for sale from Disney in the next two years.

Addiction is a terrible disease.

Well I'm not giving up my ESPN, ESPN2, etc.

There will also be Big 10 games on FS1 and BTN.

HULU meets all of my sports needs, so that's where I'm staying.
If you don't mind me asking, how much do you pay for that?

$80 in total bill. Taxes are included in that total.

It was $70 last year, then they added ESPN+ and Disney+ so they upped it $10.

ESPN+ carried all of the NCAA baseball Regionals which were previously hard to get until Super Regionals.

The nice thing about streaming is it's month-to-month. There's no contract so you can shut it off at any time.

At one time I thought about just having it for college football season and bowls, then shutting it back off from February - August, but the NCAA basketball tournament is on TBS, TNT, and TRU. Now that ESPN+ is carrying college baseball I'll just keep it on. Hell I can drop $80 in the bar in one night. LOL
