Thee PAC 12, Big 10, and ACC (Alliance) are Dividing Up tOrphaned 8 As We Plorst.

I disagree highly that the ACC stays at 14 if the other 3 power conferences are at 16. It might not even be WVU but I just don’t see it. They’ll want to blend in with the two other conferences they just formed an alliance with. I do think the B1G will have to get the ball rolling to 16 to have the others (PAC and ACC) add. But again, this is all my opinion.

I could see the ACC going WVU and Cincy.

They technically are at 15 with one member refusing to be in a division. If they go to 16 without ND there literally no space for ND without going to 18. They aren’t going to do that.

It’s not wishful think on my part, it’s way over that. I just feel like the ACC won’t want to look weak and thats a vibe it kind of gives off if the others go to 16 but they stay. I’m not saying my team on any others available make them stronger, but the perception from some may be they look weak staying at 14.

I get that, but ND is never going to join unless the playoffs mandate the teams to qualify need to be in a conference. Going to 15 (technically 16) could still absolutely work with the pod system like I mentioned. When the 5 ACC teams play ND yearly it doesn’t count as a conference game. They go to 9 conference games and they play everyone every 2 years with the teams in their pods played yearly.

And it doesn’t need to be WVU to work. Of course I want that but it could work with Kansas or Iowa State or Oklahoma state. Shit it could work with cincy. It doesn’t need to be dependent on ND.

I think they go to 15 minimum, possible 16.

WVU and Cincy would very likely be above .500 in the ACC. It wouldn't make them weaker in an eyeballs sense. IMO

The ACC with Notre Dame seems like it's really powerful.
Bad deal, good conference.

Agree, the thing I would wonder (and worry) too is if some of the more prestigious academic schools would want another university that fits their academic want. Not sure who that could be literally but someone maybe like a Connecticut.

If that's true, I don't understand much of anything.
The BIG took Maryland and Rutgers though.

The money side of academics crushes the money in football. The B1G all but requires AAU standing to be a member. That’s the only reason I was thinking it.

It’s delusional to think the ACC is going to a pod system in basically all their sports to make room for WV. If the schools voted I would be surprised if it got 2 votes.

WVU isn't that far behind Oklahoma in their 3rd tier money.
I don't know if that makes any difference.

Not one bit delusional to think everyone is adding teams so the ACC will too. It’s more delusional to actually think they’d stand pat. Besides it’d be adding an extra conference game. You are acting like they’d have to move mountains. And your opinion on votes is the most delusional thing you said.

It's silly to think that just because the SEC/B1G expands, that the PAC will follow suit.

It makes no sense to expand for the sake of expansion.

This is coming from the guy that was convinced the Big 12 was viable when I’ve been telling you for years the conference structure wasn’t sustainable.

It makes zero sense to unbalance the league and add anybody with a contract that goes to 2036. Plus you’ve got to find more income for the big dogs that are flexing not dilute it.

It would take ESPN saying they would pay 19 more million a year for WV to make the numbers work. You think ESPN does that? I don’t.

They expand for 4 reasons:

1. If the money is there and doesn’t dilute the other schools. In the PAC case I think this might be possible because the Big 12 folds and FOX will desperately need content.

2. Solved timezone issue and makes the league more attractive to networks.

3. Texas is a massive college football watching market so ratings would climb. Let’s face most of California isn’t your die hard CFB crowd.

4. There literally isn’t anyone left in their current footprint to add to the conference and you need some new blood. If you wait some of these viable programs will slide in quality pretty quickly.

1 is the most important and if it can be figured out then I think something happens. You will forever regret not taking OU and Texas when you had a shot.

You probably can't get past #1, as it is doubtful that the money is there.

I’m curious because if the Big 12 folds that is a HUGE hole in FOX’s Saturday lineup and it’s an opportunity to not only sell those extra games but finally find a network partner for your network (that is faltering). I just feel like there is a deal to be made as an expanded PAC is under valued with expanded content.

The way the business is moving streaming will become a huge factor. It’ll be about actual eyeballs, a team like WVU with its many rivalries would be a perfect fit for the ACC. Right now a network like ESPN might not but down the road it’s very possible.

And let’s get one thing straight, if the NIL wasn’t a thing this thread wouldn’t exist as OU and Texas would still be in the Big 12. It Took a massive change (independent business’ paying players) to make it happen.

9 fucking pages and here is what we know....

1. No evidence these 3 conferences are going to expand at all.
2. WVU is not getting into ACC.
3. ND is STILL not going to join the ACC.
4. No evidence that this is an “alliance” to “counter” the SEC.
5. Nobody outside the inner circle of these conference leaders know what it is all about.
6. We will find out soon.
