Thee PAC 12, Big 10, and ACC (Alliance) are Dividing Up tOrphaned 8 As We Plorst.

Bigger Stadium means more fan interest - even during lean years. The fact that two second fiddle teams in their own state in the Big Xii have bigger stadiums and more fans than a Pac-12 Power that is the premier team in their own state says something about the issues at hand in the Pac-12.

FWIW, Iowa State finished first in the Big Xii Regular Season last year AND still had the best record in the Big Xii after losing the CCG (ISU was 8-2, and OU was 7-2). No Trophy, but that is just semantics, I know, but no different than the Wash. State and Ore. State Co-Championships in the moth ball Era. Neither of those programs are anywhere as good as Iowa State right now and have NEVER had as much fan support.

As for better team, Iowa State beat both the Big Xii and the Pac 12 Championship last year, and they are loaded for bear again this year. Iowa State has a very strong team with many all-Big Xii and All-American caliber players and a strong program heading into 2021.

The PROGRAM is in GREAT shape and not a one hit wonder. FWIW, all of the 5th year seniors at Iowa State have only experienced winning, have played in the Liberty Bowl (W), Alamo Bowl (L), Camping World Bowl (L) and Fiesta Bowl (W) and have won a game in every other Big Xii Stadium (including @ Oklahoma and @ Texas).

If the Pac-12 doesn't want them, that's their business.
more fan interest? no Oregon has sell outs even in a lean year. they expanded with over flow and still sold out. they added portable bleachers for big games and still sold out. if you dont think Oregon could add to equal Iowa state capacity and still sell out you are wrong

"better"

Iowa state had two 9 win seasons since 2000 no conference titles
WSU has had six 9 or more wins seasons in the same time. and a conference title
oregon state has had five 9 or more win seasons since 2000 and a conference title
Since 2000, doesn't really mean anything. Sheesh, Alabama went (3-8) in 2000!

Even if it did, Iowa State still had a bigger stadium with more tickets sold and more fans than either of those programs since 2000.

FWIW, I do appreciate the fine years by the Beavers and the Cougars when they have them. They are hard to come by.

I was kind of hoping for the SEC to take over everything. Then they could split CFB into the following divisions:

B1G Division: Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Minnesota, Purdue, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Northwestern, and Wisconsin
Big East Division: Penn State, Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Syracuse, Boston College, Rutgers, Virginia Tech, Cincinnati, Louisville, and Notre Dame
ACC Division: Miami, FSU, Georgia Tech, Clemson, North Carolina, NC State, Wake Forest, Duke, Virginia, and Maryland
SEC Division: Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Kentucky, Mississippi, Miss State, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt
Big12 Division: Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Colorado, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas A&M, TCU, and Texas Tech
Pac12 Division: Arizona, Arizona State, Cal, Stanford, USC, UCLA, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Washington State, BYU, and Utah

CFB fixed including rivalries in the NEW SEC. One TV Contract for everyone. Equal Revenue Sharing.

On another board it was noted that he said these were "done deals." It might be a situation where Tech is still in the process of finalizing their deal.

That being said, if the outcome of this is we get to stay at the big boy table and the three primary teams we recruit against in Texas get relegated to G5 status, shit that would be awesome.
If the TX schools are not finding spots.. I can see them banding together and making a new version of the SWC. I bet they would schedule a lot of SEC schools in future OOC games.

If the PAC 12 can do that and not lower their per school share, they'd be nuts not to do it. And you hit the nail on the head. All are perceived as "non sexy" brands. Truth be told, some of those that are considered "sexy" brands are really just a bunch of arrogant pricks IMHO.

Hell, Texas Tech's stadium is also larger than Oregon's as well. K-State is about the same as Oregon.

Texas Tech and KState may have larger stadiums, but Oregon has larger attendance.

Having said that, attendance only matters in the context of individual university revenue, and doesn't really matter when it comes to TV negotiations.

I'm fucking livid still that weak ass Kevin warren is bowing down to the pac and letting them broadcast it.

edit... i guess all 3 stations are broadcasting it now.

That is yet to be determined.
I'm glad you're enthusiastic about it though.
I am!

I have seen them at their worst, in between and now on annual solid ground.

I like the way it is NOW more than the way it was in the early '90s! :)

Having a marginally bigger stadium isn't important when it comes to conference expansion IMO. Expansion is happening because of TV deals and a team's national brand is more important when it comes to that. Oregon and Iowa State probably have similar size fanbases but Oregon has been the more nationally relevant program over the last 20 years, which is why they're seen as a more valuable program when it comes to conference expansion. Obviously neither are brand names and don't carry much weight if they aren't winning.

Iowa State obviously had a great 2020 season and has been on the upswing. If Iowa State can keep doing what they've been doing the last 3 seasons, for the next 10 seasons, that would do numbers for their national brand. But if the ACC, Big Ten or PAC 12 were to invite Iowa State now, they are gambling that their football success will continue. I think those 3 conferences are waiting and seeing if Iowa State maintains this level of success long term. If they do, I wouldn't be surprised if they get an invite. The fanbase and academic prowess is there.

I think the debate was about Oregon State not Oregon (at least it was initially).

Oregon probably has the strongest fanbase in the Pac12 when it comes to attendance and interest in the sport. They generally show up and Oregon is considered one of the toughest places to play at in the country.

That's kinda the whole point of this, no? Will be interesting if there's some sort of potential for a shared TV deal, could mean HUGE dollars.

There's that 'enthusiasm' again

Hey, can you blame him. I can see a dream scenario of Tennessee going undefeated until Alabama if they get by Pittsburgh. Is it possible? meh... yeah. Is it going to happen? Definitely not. Schedule is below. One thing to keep in mind is that Florida plays Alabama on Sept 18th. There is a saying that teams generally lose two games when they play Alabama because they are so beat up for the next game.

The realistic me has Pittsburgh as a possible loss since it is so early, @ Florida is a loss, @ Missouri is a loss, and Ole Miss is likely a close loss.

The PAC finally has an alpha commissioner. It will take some time to undo the damage but it feels good

The Alliance makes sense for ACC and Pac12 but I never understood why the B1G is involved. They are kind of the same position as the SEC in that they can take teams and don't need Alliances. IMO, the B1G could probably get Oregon and USC if they really pushed for it.

Iowa State is a really bad program all time. Under 50% all time win %. Not many P5 worse than them.

Big Ten and PAC have media contracts coming up and this will increase the value of their inventory without adding more teams. The Big Ten will now get big time OOC game with Oregon and SC without splitting up the pie into more pieces.

ACC is the odd one out. Their Media deal doesn’t expire for a while. They are just hoping an alliance will help keep them from getting raided

same can be said about Iowa State. all those fans in that big stadium didnt help the team from having more losing seasons than winning since 2000

Thank you for that good memory :).
