There are no good teams this year…

I am starting to like Clemson a little. They could be that fly in the ointment team that makes it into playoffs and shocks the field.

If you had my opinion (with what I have seen so far). Here it is although I am still not sure if I am correct:

I think there is a very good top 5 right now. I don't see a top 3 anymore.

1. Alabama
2. Georgia
3. Ohio State
4. Clemson
5. Michigan

That is top 5. Then there are the party crashers. I don't think they are true contenders but with any given Saturday, they could wreck the teams above and make it in:

1. USC
2. Tennessee
3. Ole Miss
4. Penn State
5. Oklahoma State
6. TCU
7. Kentucky
8. Oregon
9. Utah
10. UCLA - For some reason, I just don't think this team is as good as Oregon, Utah, and USC but we will see.

Clemson beating both NC State and Wake Forest is huge in the ACC race. I think Wake Forest is second best team in ACC and would be in the party crashers list if they hadn't already lost to Clemson. I am not sure FSU and Syracuse are good enough to challenge Clemson's road to ACC Title game although both could beat Clemson if Clemson doesn't play a good game (I just think both would lose more games then Clemson). The ACC Coastal is horrendous so no competition for Clemson there.

Other notes:

1. Kansas - great story but I think they will go 9-3 in Big12
2. Kansas State - Loss to Tulane effectively eliminated them from playoffs even if they win Big12. I also don't see them going 9-0 plus winning Conference Title game

I'd have Michigan ahead of Ohio St.

Ohio St struggled to put Notre Dame away in Columbus. It was 14-10 Buckeyes with 4:00 remaining in the 4th Q.
Notre Dame lost to Marshall in South Bend the following week.

Michigan's got better line play and beat tOSU soundly last season.

Honestly, it is hard to decide 1-5. I just went with Ohio State barely over Michigan due to having a better offense. However, I think Michigan is very close and could be better than Ohio State. Penn State also seems to be sitting quietly in the corner. I don't feel like Penn State is as good as either of them but Penn State has the ability to beat both.

Yeah, Penn St's close win @ Purdue doesn't look so bad now.
Purdue's loss @ Syracuse doesn't look so bad now.

Penn St played a close one against Northwestern, but they could have been looking ahead to Ann Arbor this weekend. i.e. Trap game.

Penn St plays @ Michigan and gets Ohio St in Happy Valley.

Of course Michigan has to travel to Columbus, so that scheduling trio is balanced.

I know Michigan beat Iowa at Iowa (and we know Iowa's offense, or lack thereof, but that Michigan OOC stretch consisted of teams that are a combined 3-12 and the lowest of the low in G5 competition. I know they didn't plan it that way.

They won them like they should though.

That's the way I judge games against scrubs.

Iowa's got a putrid offense, but don't mistake that for poor line play. Iowa's got good lines.

Iowa didn't score until the 4th Q, and got a garbage TD with :08 to play.

In reality that score was 27-7, not the 27-14 that shows up as the final.

yeah their line is tough, they gave up one point less to ISU than KU did..

stout DL

nice scrimmages

Yeah.

Colorado St scored their 7 pts in the 4th Q with Michigan up 51-0.
Hawaii scored 3 points in the 3rd Q (Michigan up 42 -0 at the time), and the other 7 pts in the 4th Q with Michigan up 49-3.
UConn got shut out.

lol we make fun of SEC schools OOC competition for the most part.. but that is HORRIBLE for a blueblood program..

I could see UConn, but were Colorado St and Hawaii scheduled knowing how bad they'd be?

Hawaii's been better than Nebraska.

DJ's taken several steps forward from last year. The offense overall looks a lot better.

Pass defense has looked blah though

but seriously how does the AD say hmm you know what our fans would love?? Hawaii, Colorado......state, and UCONN (they play football too!) as our OOC slate for the 2022 season!!!!!

but maybe ten years ago they were hurting for wins so badly they scheduled them.. nice strategy
