This is the year

Dear sweet jesus, it's impossible for Oregon and Ohio State to win out since they would play for the conference title. Also Illinois is irrelevant if we win out.
No, as explained, Ohio State currently requires other teams to lose in order to make the title game. Sure, it's likely but currently that is not guaranteed; IE Ohio State does not hold it's fate in their own hands by winning out.

If Illinois wins out, they're in over Ohio State. So is Oregon.

Why would Illinois be in?

Why would Illinois be in?
guess it would depend on where the polls had them, but if both win out -- Illinois would have a better win (#2 Oregon) and would probably jump Ohio State in the polls

It used to be college football -- a sport that was better than the rest. Turning it into "the rest" makes it worse, not better.
More eyes equals more interest equals more money for CFB to grow.

Highly unlikely since they got smoked by PSU and we would have beaten them. We also will have had faced a better cumulative opponent conference winning percentage since we will have faced the top 4 Big Ten teams Illinois will have faced with Indiana and Iowa as well. This is all moot considering they got taken to the wire by Purdue and will likely get destroyed at Oregon, but if OSU wins out we're in Indy either way.

When Oregon loses to Purdue this week they will drop from #2 and who likely moves up? PSU...who tOSU plays. Now tOSU would have the better win

It's absolutely true. Only thing during the BCS era that would hold them out is someone like Miami or Iowa State winning out, and neither of them have looked anywhere near as good as OSU.
I thought the Big 12 winner would have several losses. I'm beginning to think Iowa State may not have any or only one. The rest of the "conference pre season darlings" have absolutely laid an egg. K-State might still be okay. BYU and Tech are pleasant surprises. None have overly difficult schedules remaining since some teams haven't panned out. Of the three BYU looks to have the easiest schedule remaining. Tech avoids K-State. They avoid ISU and K-State. On paper none have significantly more talent than any of the rest so they will still probably lose games.

BYU - Zona, Okie Lite @UCF, @Utah, Kansas, @ASU, Houston
ISU - UCF, Tech, @Kansas, Cincy, @Utah, K-State.
Tech - Baylor, @TCU, @ISU, Colorado, @Okie Lite, West Virginia

Now that I've popped off, watch all three of them lose several the next 6+ weeks.

ISU and BYU look like they're on a collision course for the Big 12 title game. I see what you mean though, that conference is so wide open it feels like. It'd be great to see Matt Campbell get himself into a playoff. He's had a rough go of things lately but I still think he's a great coach.

They are losing this weekend to Purdue.

Stange as it sounds, the Big 12 race depends on Utah IMO. If they continue to spiral downward or can get it together to some degree, BYU and ISU may sail through things. The Utes get both BYU and ISU in SLC. BYU is the Holy War rivalry so there is that factor. ISU has to turn around and play K-State the week after Utah.

I see that Rising is out yet again for the year, so that should all but do it for Utah, but I'm sure they'd love to play spoiler, especially in the Holy War. It's going to be really interesting this second half of the year in that conference suffice it to say. While I'd like to see ISU, I think BYU has a great story as well. That win vs SMU is looking better each week.

Yes it is. And vice versa. The BYU loss by SMU doesn't seem as bad as it did at the time.
