Thursdays with Festivus Miracles

Tank has had a runny nose for the past few days. Wife took him to the doctor's just in case he had something goofy like an ear infection. Doctor suggested COVID testing.

I thought it was ridiculous, but whatevs. Fast test came back negative. Nobody else in the house has any symptoms whatsoever. They also took the PCR test, will get that back probably after Christmas. Going to proceed as normal.

Last numbers I saw had 12 infants in little over 300 new dailt cases in my county. A little over 75,000 people here

County and state are currently popping off record numbers of positive tests. We have erred on the side of caution throughout this mess. Our riskiest behavior is indoor dining, and we have generally been staying to larger spaces with better ventilation. There are a couple of spots we used to consider that are takeout only for us in the current circumstances.

As far as I know, everyone that we'll be seeing is at least double-vaxxed, and most have been boosted. We have a few high risk folks, namely my dad and my MIL, that I'd like to prevent getting COVID.

If there were other symptoms, or if someone else in the house has symptoms, I'd be a lot more cautious. As of right now, though, I don't see anything outside of a runny nose for Tank. No fever, no loss of appetite, kid still runs around like a maniac half the time so there's no signs of fatigue.

I am double vaxxed and boosted doesn't mean I can't get infected and spread it. Hopefully Tank is negative, though.

Better, thanks. 1/10 would not suggest.
I have one of my best friends struggling with it right now. No previous health issues, and he is seriously sick. Been worried about you too, and good to see you.

Yeah, I'm hoping he stays negative, obviously. If any of us were showing any symptoms, I'd have us all I'm for testing and go ahead and quarantine until we all got PCR results.

Given that he's negative on the rapid (which is pretty accurate when taken while experiencing symptoms), he has exactly one symptom, and none of us have any other symptoms, I'm landing on the side of "I think we're safe".

I won't say the new variant has been blow out of proportion, but it is following the traditional path of virus mutations. More infectious and less dangerous. The worst thing about it is the response in the media and government. Just a change of behavior such as social distancing and cocooning for a few weeks and the crisis will subside again
