Going back to a traditional scheme will set you back about three years to get to square one. Switching to an option scheme from traditional will be about a year less, since it's easier to run that scheme with "below par" players. You're going to.have struggles for another couple years, on top of trying to recruit to an engineering school anyway.

Not going to lie, I hated his option scheme, and not just because of the cut blocks (close to chop blocks) that can greatly increase injury on the defense (okay, slightly bitter). It's because our own offense couldn't score enough on a below average defense to make the clock killing option offense worthless. We could never seem to pull away or get a lead where the option was a detriment to your own team trying to make up ground.
I gave Coach Collins a year 0 last year. This year I think it is optimistic to get 2-3 wins. Always hard to recruit here, but it could get better now that upcoming players aren't scared off by the scheme. It was hard enough competing for recruits as a predominantly Engineering school in the middle of SEC Country without having an offense nobody wanted to play in.

I missed the option last year, but watching Navy get absolutely demolished by BYU I remember why we are ditching it.

It wasn't just PJ's offense that had become stagnant. His defense had not developed or grown. I remember going down to Atlanta to watch Duke play them and I told the GaTech season ticket holder I was with that it was the first time I could ever remember Duke's DL was noticeably bigger than Tech's.

Figured we could use some pickems up in here for tomorrow's slate

Syracuse (+23) @ UNC
Duke (+20) @ Notre Dame
Georgia Tech (+12.5) @ FSU
Austin Peay (+28) @ Pittsburgh
Clemson (-33) @ Wake Forest
W Kentucky (+11.5) @ Louisville

He retired. He still had years on a contract.

Tech's present struggles were set in stone over a decade ago when Paul Johnson accepted the HC job. The only way to get around it was to always hire an option Coach.

looking forward to the game tomorrow. Be interesting to see how far we’ve come since Willie left. Thank ya Jesus

Wake's been pretty decent since 2017, but they always get railed like a $2 whore by Clemson

I just figured it being first game of the season (a weird season at that), and Clemson comes out very conservative early in seasons.

Austin Peay looked like absolute dog shit and Pitt may be a solid team this year, so i think they have a chance to run away with it.

W. Kentucky is favored to win their conference, but Louisville beat them by more than 12 last season, and they should be more improved this year.

I just don't know what to expect. I am really hoping to be pleasantly surprised this year, but I honestly can't put my finger on a single sure win.

How did UNC get so damn good from last season when they were 6-6 but should have lost to Duke? Duke has the ball on the one yard line and hands it off to the tailback who throws an interception????? Now they're ranked 18th in the fucking nation? Damn the media drank the kool-aid.

I hate UNC. Refs always wearing those powder blue glasses. I have seen some crazy calls. Always went against us. If you're playing in Chapel Hill, forget about it.

I think they are a solid team. Solid defense. Ok offense with a hard nosed at QB. They just play to their opponents every week. Which is why, even tho Cuse looks like they will be trash this year, I think it'll be a close game. But yeah, I think the media loves Mack Brown and Sam Howell is a sexy pick; therefore, UNC is getting recognition and ranked high

I have to admit, When Mack gets the talent he seems to be tough to beat, at least in a weak ACC. His problem now is that he wont be beating Dabo.

Its difficult to really get a read on them tho. Nearly every single one of their games was within 3-4 points either way it seemed. They could have easily gone 9-3 or 3-9

is Syracuse really supposed to be that bad? :omg:

i can’t see them being that bad either. But I know they were not practicing at all when ncaa practices began. Covid in NY you know.. UNC getting a lot of hype also

Probably not getting that UVA/VT game next week. VT won't release official numbers but we've got a significant number of quarantines
