Sure, they just don't seemingly have a replacement. Mccord beat out the other guy they had on the roster (which is a bad sign for that guy). Lot of pressure on true freshman Air Noland unless they go to the portal; and I'm not sure that's a guarantee either (to get someone who's good enough to start at Ohio State).

Agreed, McCord is much better than both of them. Just after what we've seen the last 10 years, McCord hasn't been as good as them. And I get that's a high standard, but there are better options in the portal out there IMO.

and he was better than McCord.

Mccord is better than Bauserman

before that he's better than Zwick was. That's 20 years ago

They didn't have a replacement for Haskins and went out and got Fields. There are rumors of Dillon Gabriel going to the portal. That would be a sizable upgrade IMO.

McCord in his 1st year as a starter played great. He ranked 8th nationally in QBR. Completed 66% of his passes. Threw for 3,200 yards which is 6th all time for a single season for OSU. I think OSU could end up regretting this if they don't already have a guy locked in from the portal.

Where in the world are you getting Boeckman was better than Mccord? Dude was the definition of a average game manager.

Beanie Wells and the defense made him look much better than he was in 2007

with the qbs in the portal you would think OSU would get one of them given their development at that position.

I just think OSU fans are using Mccord as a scapegoat a bit here. Mccord ranks 14th nationally in passer rating, 27th in yards per game. I like to make fun of Ohio State as much as the next guy, but he had one bad game that accounted for 1/3 of his INTs on the entire season. They not only want to replace him but get better than him, and I think that's going to be the challenge here. I don't think he was the problem.

McCord was a BIG step back from what we’ve had. He didn’t have to be Stroud or Fields or even Haskins, but he was glaringly mediocre.

His stats were fine, but he missed a bunch of throws, and couldn't get through his progressions. And having watched him a lot, he's not a great athlete(he's fine, but not special). Which given the Oline struggles at points this season would have helped. There are already 3 guys in the portal better than him(Ward, Leonard and Gabriel).

Ohio State was missing both an elite passer and elite rusher this year. And not having an elite rusher was just as much of a problem as the Qb position.

He had Brian Robiskie and Brian Hartline as opposed to what Kyle has going on.

People are making excuses for this guy and he's had 3 years in a system and literally the best receivers to throw to. There are NFL teams that are jealous. He's a one read guy. He does it nearly every play. He has nice arm strength.

At best he's slightly better than Boeckman. Mccord has no NFL future. none.

Sure, he wasn't the only issue on this team, but IMO he's the biggest one. He just wasn't that great.
