Michigan fans, thoughts?

This seems like a meh hire considering the money cannon hype

7th in offense last year

16th the year before at UCF

I think it's better than meh. It will all come down to QB play for UM.

100%. Along with Oregon at PSU and then Michigan vs. Ohio State. Those will almost definitely be Fox's top 3 selections.
lol they are dumb for doing it.. like it worked for a couple years but as we have seen primetime is still better.. Again i really hate it for the fans that spend money to attend tailgates, the pre-game shows and for the fans that actually attend the game itself.

There has been a shit ton of pushback this season from fans. So I wonder if that will shake things up a little. There are a bunch of good games week 1, so there's going to be a lot of competition for viewers. Putting this game in primetime would likely be going up against either Bama vs. FSU or ND vs. Miami. I think your game would outdraw either of those, but that's a lot of shared eyeballs. Just looking at it from Fox's position. That would be a sick night game though.

Edit*. LSU vs. Clemson is also in week 1.

Fuck you FOX.. 8/30.. it's gonna be a noon kickoff ain't it?? :(
giphy.webp

4 of oregons conference opponents have a bye the week before.

Seems kinda sus.

I don't think it's the most thrilling, but I don't hate it. Feels like he'll provide some continuation of MIchigan's offensive philosophy with more downfield passing. I think the most frustrating aspect about Michigan's offense this season was a complete lack of effort to even test defenses downfield. Even if that wasn't going to be super effective for Michigan's offense, I felt like they really hamstrung themselves by not doing so and allowing defenses to load the box and play up close. UNC moved the ball this year, but struggled with penalties and some spotty kicking. Criswell was alright at QB, but he wasn't the starter at the beginning (Max Johnson got hurt in the opener against Minny). Seth from MGoBlog posted his breakdown on Lindsay:

Arch first start on the road in Columbus.. vs a first time starting QB for tosu... Ryan Day seat can only get hotter if he loses to start off the season.. this is made for a 3:30pm or primetime Kick.. those other games can go at noon..

After analyzing the schedules, this is my best guess for the selection process of picking the weeks:

1st selection: FOX - week 14
2nd selection: FOX - week 1
3rd selection: FOX - week 5
4th selection: CBS - week 10
5th selection: NBC - week 7
6th selection: FOX - week 11
7th selection: CBS - week 13
8th selection: NBC - week 8
9th selection: FOX - week 12
10th selection: CBS - week 6
11th selection: NBC - week 9
12th selection: FOX - week 4
13th selection: CBS - week 2
14th selection: NBC week 3

As a reminder Fox gets the first 3 week selections. I'm under the assumption that CBS gets to select prior to NBC based on reports from earlier this year that NBC traded away the #5 pick pick to move up and take #3 selection (which ended up being Oregon/Ohio State).

Based on the above, my best guess for week 1 across CFB:

Saturday, August 30th:

Nebraska vs. Cincinnati - 12:00 | ESPN
East Carolina at NC State - 12:00 | ESPN2
Texas at Ohio State - 12:00 | FOX
TCU at North Carolina - 12:00 | ABC
Miami (Oh) at Wisconsin - 12:00 | FS1
Idaho at Washington State - 3:00 | CW
Syracuse vs. Tennessee - 3:30 | ESPN
Boise State at USF - 3:30 | ESPN2
New Mexico at Michigan - 3:30 | CBS
LSU at Clemson - 3:30 | ABC
Auburn at Baylor - 3:30 | FS1
Georgia Tech at Colorado - 4:00 | FOX
Cal at Oregon State - 6:30 | CW
Marshall at UGA - 7:30 | ESPN
Northwestern at Tulane - 7:30 | ESPN2
Alabama at FSU - 7:30 | ABC
Utah at UCLA - 7:30 | NBC

Sunday, August 31st:

South Carolina vs. Virginia Tech - 7:30 | ESPN

Monday, September 1st:

Notre Dame at Miami - 7:30 | ESPN

I've decided I'm terrible at understanding, let alone predicting, the success of offensive coordinator hires. I died on the Doug Nussmeier hill thinking he would revolutionize our offense. So, with that qualifier,

I think it seems like a pretty good hire. We needed tons of experience (given the guy on the out had none) and this guy seems to have a lot of good experience as an OC AND especially coaching NFL caliber QB's. His offenses rank high fairly often and probably more important to Michigan, they seem like balanced offenses. He checks a lot of boxes

-Coached multiple NFL QBs
-Balance attack, not solely a passing offense or reliant on running QBs
-Multiple good offenses at multiple college programs
-years of OC experience

That was a legitimately weird weekend. It was like 85 the weekend before AND after.
yeah just my luck lol.. man that morning.. i remember parking like a mile away from the stadium and staying inside the truck for like 45 min prognosticating... before we all got out the truck and proceeded to walk down the hill carrying a suitcase of coors..

At least it didn't rain?

The tailgates were fun that day, Texas fans just invaded Ann Arbor the night before. We had dinner reservations the night prior and I'm not sure I've ever seen it that crowded with visiting fans before.

Detroit wasn't that bad.. although MGM sucked.. Think Indian casinos in oklahoma give you more winners than that place lol
