I was just coming here to share a link on this. Seeing it’s covered…..what a fucking moron.
He gonna find out what booing really is.I was just coming here to share a link on this. Seeing it’s covered…..what a fucking moron.
This wouldn’t fly well with any fan base….but he’s about to really understand how fickle a northeast fan base can be.
Enjoy it, fuck nut.
Any team that gives Baez big money will regret it. He’s very flashy, plays good defense, is a good base runner and has a lot of power, but that low OBP is gonna really kill his productivity when he loses a step.
I think taking a walk every now and then is ultimately more valuable than the slick looking swim slide that saves an out on the base paths twice a year
If he ever loses any speed on his swing, he’s gonna be an offensive liabilityI think I said this in another thread (or it might even have been this one), would you ever want to bet long term on his skill set?
The thing about taking walks is not just that they are directly valuable themselves but that they are also usually indicative of a good approach at the plate. It's not even so much that walks themselves lead to good contact and extra base hits (or vice versa) but that the little things that tend to lead to walks also tend to lead to good contact and extra base hits.
Not if….when.If he ever loses any speed on his swing, he’s gonna be an offensive liability
Probably won’t be as dramatic, but it’s pretty much what happened to Chris Davis. Always a low OBP guy that made up for it with slugging%, but the bat speed slowed, the slugging went way down and he was the least valuable player in baseball over a few year stretch(Baez is a good defender and base runner, so his value will never come close to being that low, but him being a valuable hitter won’t last long unless he makes some changes IMO)Not if….when.
The Orioles Chris Davis, right?Probably won’t be as dramatic, but it’s pretty much what happened to Chris Davis. Probably not a coincidence the Cubs downfall started as he became more prominent.Baez is such an overrated personality. I think he’s gonna be disappointed in his market this off-season. He’s more style than substance
He’s got some slick slides and is one of the best at applying a tag out there, but overall, his .286 OBP just doesn’t move the needle for me as a key member of the lineup.Probably not a coincidence the Cubs downfall started as he became more prominent.
But the national baseball media thinks this guy is the most savvy player ever so he's absolved of criticism.

Davis had some stupidly huge contract when he imploded and started hitting so terribly, though. The team couldn't send him down to the minors for some clause in his contract, so they just let him ride the bench and play every 3rd game at 1st or DH.If Baez had an OBP like Davis his profile would actually look much better (and if he had a walk rate like Davis he'd be golden), his is even worse than that. Davis has 13 points on Baez and the adjusted league average OBP was also 5 points lower for his career (and that is including Davis's decline years).

Interestingly, Davis does get $42 million in deferred "Bobby Bonilla" money from 2023-2037 from the Orioles, so that's a big similarity.
