Everything was expensive. The rooms were expensive, the food was expensive and the drinks were expensive. Fortunately, there are a few restaurants just outside of the complex that give cheaper options. We ate at one of those each night for dinner, but had breakfast and lunch each day at the resort. The kids loved the pools and the water slides, but they got tired of them after a few days. For me personally, the ideal trip would be a couple of days there and then fly over to Kauai or the Big Island for the rest of the trip. I don’t like Honolulu/Waikiki much at all. Ordinarily, I’d throw out Maui as an option as well, but for obvious reasons, that’s probably out for a while.

wtf... its like 600/night there?? i can stay at the palace inn here with 2 strippers for that.
 
It’s like Friday on a Thursday! Yay! Boss & his minion are on their flight back from Asia…left at 6pm Thursday and will arrive some 14 hours later at 5pm...on Thursday! Fuggin’ time zones!

I've been to Honolulu and it was like being in Los Angeles. Not my cup of tea, but it seems the resort is like an hour away from honolulu so I thought it might have more of that Maui vibe. Not as crowded and city-like. :noidea: Maybe not.

I doubt we will island hop. I hate flying, and just getting there will be enough travelling for all of us. Really just looking for a lazy vacation. I mean, we'll do some shit, but also wanna vedge pretty hard on the beach.

My daughter is a complete war nerd, so we'll prolly have to do Pearl Harbor, but other than that, we wouldn't spend any time in the city area.

We're looking at a villa, so maybe we can grocery shop and do some cheap eating that way?:noidea:

On Oahu, North Shore is nice and much more laid back. I get the flying thing, but an island hop is easy. Oahu to Kauai is like 20 minutes. There’s still the airport hassle, but the flight itself is nothing.

I'll look into it. I didn't realize it was that short of a flight. I've always wanted to go to Kauai.:think:

I remember flying from LAX to Seoul, S. Korea years ago and it was around a 12+ hour "non-stop" flight. And about a 17 hour time difference (PT).

That's why I always flew on 747s, ONLY, to Asia. At least I could get up occasionally to walk around the plane. :heh:

If you do go, I’d recommend staying near Kapa’a or Poipu. Princeville is nice, but it’s way the fuck away from everything. You’ll spend half of each day driving.

They’re on an Airbus A350 in biz class, window seats so nobody sitting next to them. I don’t feel even a little sorry for the bastages.

I went to Kauai once. I always thought that if you were recovering from a nervous breakdown, it would be the perfect spot. Beautiful island, but nothing going on.

They’ve got their little Grand Canyon (Waimea Canyon?), there’s hiking, the beach. We took a helicopter tour (which was awesome). You‘ve got Queen’s Bath up near Princeville along with the lighthouse. Lots of cool stuff on Kauai.

I was there when I was younger so I was looking for some decent clubs and a little partying but there was none. If I were looking for a nice place to go with the missus that was secluded and not crowded, it would be a great place. I was only there for 2 days then headed back to Maui.

Kauai is the least-developed island, and therefore the least crowded. If you really want solitude, that's definitely the place. However, the rugrats might be bored out of their minds, as Center Ice mentioned..

There's a really great place to learn to surf on Kauai, a sheltered bay with perfect waves. It's also got decent restaurants and some of the most remote beaches in the state - one of which is kinda dangerous to get to and to swim at, but you'll have the whole place to yourself.

We went there for our honeymoon; spent two days in Oahu, including a trip to Pearl Harbor, then the rest of our time on Kauai. Perfect for the circumstances. When we went back with kids, we went to the Big Island. There's plenty of family options there, and you can fly direct to Kona or Hilo, no Island-hop required.
