i did for years and dropped them as they never approved anything. just wondering if it helps for a new A/C unit.

In my experience, it did not. They just pay for band-aid fixes, leaving you with lots of time with an inoperable A/C unit waiting for a repairman to drive from far-ass away. Meanwhile you are missing work and sitting in a hot house.
