My middle daughter concussed herself with her own leg last week. Broke her orbital bone in four places as well.

Scary shit! Hope she's okay! Floor exercise or uneven bars?

Thanks. It’s never fun to get a call from the gym saying your kid is hurt and you have to go pick her up and take her to get looked at.
No doubt. My understanding is that a lot of the time the orbital bones require surgery to set. I'll keep my fingers crossed that that isn't necessary.

Once in middle school, my best friend and I were playing basketball on his back patio. I had a broomstick in my hand that we used to raise and lower the adjustable goal. My friend threw the basketball at me so I instinctively hit it with the broomstick. I was told the ball flew really far away. I wouldn't know, I was unconscious on the ground. Shiner the size of an orange. Probably had a concussion. Wouldn't know back in those days. Also, I look like this now.

Likely not, but no gymnastics for the next 4-6 weeks, which for her is a fate worse than death. Luckily, competition season ended a week prior to the injury.

So sorry to hear that, but as much as it sucks for her, if something like is going to happen, the timing of it was really good.
I hope as she's goin' nuts not being able to do what she loves, she can take some consolation in that.

Beam. Working on a new dismount. Basically does a back handspring into a full layout. Missed the beam off the handspring and landed on the ground in a pike position. Drove her knee into her eye socket.

Jeebus. Reading that gave me a headache.... and a backache.... and a kneeache.

The plastic surgeon we saw last week didn’t think she’d need it, but we have another appointment with one who specializes in kids next week.

Oof! Ouch! I dabbled in gymnastics as a youngin' and I friggin' hated the beam!

I wanted to do gymnastics as a kid, but I wasn't allowed to because it would build my muscles the wrong way for ballet.

Reading what happened to poor Willie's daughter, though, it's probably a good thing I didn't. If I managed to give myself a big ol' bump on the forehead kicking myself with a pointe shoe, gawd only knows what I would have done to myself trying to flip around and stuff.
