tOfficial PAC-12 Thread

Talking about a passive program. This should have been done a few years ago. Shaw blamed the transfer portal and NIL now.
Na this timing makes sense. Up to 18 was still winning 9 games a season. 19 was first down year then 2020 kind of masked things with a short season where they wrre 4-2. So now 2 more seasons later and no progress it was time.

can't say I blame them for being patient either. It's easy to forget but Stanford was in pretty bad shape prior to 2009. Stanford's had a respectable football program, but they've never really had sustained success since the 70's.

Was anyone surprised Shaw stepped down? Is there any real hope they hire someone that can transform it back to where it was late Harbaugh / early Shaw? Does this era of NIL and transfer portal present even harder challenges for a school like Stanford to stay competitive?

They enjoyed a pretty decent ride all things considered. Does feel like the full stop on that ride though.
Eh, if anything a private school like Stanford should excel at NIL. A school that is so good at women’s program as well could skirt the ethical rules of getting a top football recruit to get her brother. Shit we did that the Dennis Rodman’s children. Problem with Stanford seems to always be it is a class of cultures where they want to be the Ivy League at the same time as they want to be a P5 school. Somehow it seems like it would be way harder to keep a good coach when you are at Stanford but somehow it is harder to keep an Oregon coach because they always bolt for better jobs.

I think the NIL was the last straw for Shaw. He just seems like a guy that doesn’t want any part of such. JMO

Bronco Mendenhall would be my top target if I'm Stanford.

Assuming CP is happy in retirement and doesn't want to get back in the game.

Shaw lived for years off of what Harbaugh built.

End of story.
but how far does that go?
5 years later and Stanford was 12-2 and still had a few more good years after. are you saying that extended 8 years?

I don't get worked up until the ink is dry. We don't know what is a serious effort vs saying things to the media as muscle for other efforts behind the scenes.

The sport as we know it has been in the process of a total strip down and rebuild for years now. What will it look like in the end? I have no bloody idea. I'll just keep watching until it doesn't work for me anymore, should that day come.

I don't think there's anything real about those tweets, but I'm still for it.

the thing that doesnt make sense to me is if we are moving to a 12 team playoff why would they go independent? be the champ get in.

College football has always been a little silly with rankings and championships and all that, and it was part of the charm. The charm has pretty much faded over the last decade, and it's become a bad joke.
