Kids transfer when they don’t play. What can you do?

Not much. Happens every year on almost every team. Which is why, as you pointed out, getting the right coach is more important than the recruiting class. Doesn't matter how good the class is if you can't coach them up.

Recruiting is weird anyway. A couple of years ago, Helton had what I believe was the lowest rated class in school history and then was right back in the top 10 the next year.

The difference was they got Donte and Orlando in the off season. That vastly improved USCs recruiting.

Considering how bad USCs class was in 2020, I wouldn’t want to punt on 2022 as well if I were USC. Having two really bad recruiting classes will really start to impact depth. I’d have to really be sold on that NFL assistant to wait until after the first signing day.

But if you really think that person is the guy, always take the coach over a recruiting class. You just really need to be sold on that guy over the college options

True. Getting Donte might end up being the best thing Helton did while he was at USC.

Yeah, I think they'll try their best to have the coach in place. But I don't think they have the luxury to dictate a timeline or go with their 2nd choice just to have someone in place by early signing day.

But yeah, I get your point. If they don't think there's much difference between their top 2 guys and 1 can be in place by early signing day, then you go with that guy. But, if you have a clear #1, know he's coming, but he wants to finish his season and maybe doesn't want his name out there yet, you don't argue.

Just announced on The Dan Patrick Show by USC Insider Will Ferrell that Nick Saban or Nick Saban's brother will be the next USC coach.

He couldn't remember which one though.

For real?

I was kinda hoping Harsin would snag him as an analysist like Saban does. Mike Bobo's health isn't the best and I wanted a backup on staff.
