tOfficial “Weed Growers” Thread

Took 3 seeds and put them in water.
In 24 hours, 2 busted open, so I put those 2 in some wet paper towels.
The 3rd seed hasn't opened up and it's been 48 hours in the glass of water, so I went ahead and put it in the wet paper towels.

Just put the 2 that broke open into 3 gallon grow bags. I didn't put it in the fertilized soil; I put a divot in the top and filled it with peat moss, so not to burn the sprout.

I'm thinking if it's going to come up, it will in the next 24-48 hours ???

What am I missing

I've never grown in peat moss. I know it makes the nastiest tasting whiskey though so it's something i would naturally stay away from. 😄 jk.

I assume you are setting up for indoor growing with lights so what method are you planning on using? Soil or hydro?

got 3 gallon cloth grow pots filled with my amended soil, but with a small golf tennis ball sized at the top for my peat moss. I figure it will take some time to grow thru that and mature some before it hits the 'hotter' soil.

It's an autoflower, so practice grow #2 has commenced.

I have one 150 watt grow light from Groplanner. not sure what the equivalent is, maybe 500-600 watts.
On the 18/6 cycle. It has wifi and a built in timer you can set. It's not enough light, but we will see what happens.
Have some tomato plants that sprouted and are under the light also. They seem to be doing wonderful so far.

Both seed sprouts are starting to break the surface of the soil now.

I doubled the height of my grow light and put it at half power; trying not to scorch them as they emerge.
Not sure about when to go back to full power though.

You can prolly just use a florescent in the seedling stage.

Remember the farther away that light is, the more the plant will stretch out, which will make it spindly and weak when it first starts to vegetate.

This is so true....

Also remember the plant will only grow as wide as the roots can grow....

If you transplant your seedling into a wider pot, the plant will put more energy into the roots than growing the plant.

With this in mind it will stall out the growth but don't worry as it will make a bushier plant rather than a taller plant.

Are you going to clip the second set of leaves of the starters?

The reason I ask is because when I used to grow from seed, I would clip the second set of leaves and at that point it would produce two steams instead of just one.

I would also clip the second leaves of the two steams so it would make four steams.

This in returned made the plant bushier rather than taller but it would produce more buds.

The downside is it would take longer to mature.

You might clip one and not the other and see how they grow for future info.

Update so far.

Have 4 autoflowers that have all broken the soil surface. They are all a day or two apart, so the are 1/2" to 1 1/2" tall.

The plant that I grew last summer is smoking fine.
I have already found 5 seeds in it, in less than an oz smoked already. So I germinated one, and it has a small tail; so 1 more day and into soil it goes. Not sure why it has seeds, but that's fine, I'll have plenty to plant.

I tried cloning last summer with no success. After about 20 failures, I finally got one that didn't die.
It' also didn't grow. I put it in soil and it just sat there for months not doing anything. It didn't die. It didn't turn yellow. It didn't grow any, so I just waited it out. Glad I did. It's 14" tall now, and I just transplanted it from a 1 gallon pot to a 3 gallon pot; had good root development, so that was good news.

So
That will be the 6 plants I'm allowed by law.

Now
There are a couple of places that sell Clones that I will visit.
I'll buy one or two just to see what happens.
Those will be my Outlaw plants.

Practice Run #2 going fine so far.

1) Using a seed from the bag will only result in more hermaphrodite plants. Your bud will never be as good as pure sensemilla. Once the plant starts making seeds, that's where all its focus goes, neglecting the buds henceforth.

2) When you cloned, did you use a rooting gel? Tough to get them to take without it.

I'd find a pure sensemilla indica and pure sense sativa and make mothers out of em'. Just keep em indoors under a florescent in vegetative state and takes cuts off as you need them.

In the 3 years I've been smoking Medical, I only found 1 seed ever. That's the one I grew last summer.
It seemed strange to find a seed at all, but there it was.

What I grew was every bit as good as the original it came from; minus better smell and taste, so I'm at a loss really to explain it.

I know my plant was at least 4 weeks late to maturity, so I didn't harvest until November 6th, right before a hard freeze.
Didn't really think it would have seeds, but it does. Like I said, 5 seeds so far in less than an oz. Glad it gets me as high as it does.

Q; when did those seeds start to develop in the plant ?? how long did it take to get a mature seed ? all questions I have no answer for.

2) When you cloned, did you use a rooting gel? Tough to get them to take without it.

Out of the many I tried, I used different rooting gels/powders/etc, and some without anything. I can't remember which one I did to this particular clone, being so long ago; but I'm sure the plant was in the flower stage when I took it, if that makes any difference ?

I'll try some more after these get some size, but if I can just go to the Clone Store and get them, I'm inclined to do that; although that remains to be seen if I can or not. And maybe that's where I get a better Clone altogether.

I'm just throwing all of this out there so I can get some good input, and maybe give some other people some ideas.
Thanks for the help

This article said that a plant can become a hermaphrodite in 2 ways.
1. It is genetically predisposed to doing so.
2. Environment.

I think I had 2 problems going on with the plant I grew this Summer.
1. It was hot, really hot. July and August had plenty of 100 - 110 degree days;
2. Had a street light 60 feet away; I heard this can fuck it up.

This is why I've always preferred indoor growing. The yield won't be as much, but the chances at quality are better IMO and the environment is MUCH easier to control. Less pests...can control temp., humidity, Co2, etc.

2 observations so far:

1. Out of the 4 autoflowers that are up, the one in peat moss is half the size of the others. The other 3 were put in a soil mix.
2. The 1 photo period seed I had, I put into the pot 24 hours ago with a tail about 3/4". It's already 1 1/2" tall.

The photo period seed, I put into a soil mix out of my flower beds., in the same sized pot as the rest.
So, species differences or soil is the only explanation I think, for the faster growth.

Some random things at an unexpected time.

got 3 gallon cloth grow pots filled with my amended soil, but with a small golf tennis ball sized at the top for my peat moss. I figure it will take some time to grow thru that and mature some before it hits the 'hotter' soil.

I ordered 3 gallon fabric pots but got 2 gallon. I went ahead and used them for the first autoflowers.

Have some tomato plants that sprouted and are under the light also.

I started 3 kinds of Tomatoes.

1. Dug up the roots of the good producers right before the freeze.
2. Took cuttings and cloned them.
3. Cut tomato slices and started them in a pot.

By far, the slices in a pot is far superior than the other 2, in my environment.

#1 & #2 plants just aren't looking good. They won't be making it.
The slices, early, I cut the growth back to just one stalk.
Most are 2ft tall, moving to 3 feet tall; just transplanted into a 3 gallon plastic pots, root bound, going great.

3 made it.

The one in Peat Moss didn't make it. I think it was a combination of things, Christmas being one of them.

I had trouble up front because I had them in the garage and it gets down to 57 degrees at night.
Found out they don't like that. (Tomatoes seem to be fine with it.)

I move them all into the house. They are doing fine now.
The Autoflowers are 4" tall now and growing good. Probably had some lost time, but nothing I can do now.

The 1 Photo period that came up didn't make it.
The 2nd one is though.

Have 3 more Auto's breaking the surface right now.
Muchacha is the name from some seed company. 6 seeds for $40 so I went for it.
One in the 2 gallon fabric, one in a 3 gallon fabric, and one in a 5 gallon fabric pot.
We will see how much difference size makes.

Going from Humidity tents to hardening off was a challenge at first, but this 2nd round is going a lot better, I think partly due to increasing the temperature.

The Clone I had almost bit the dust. I think it had some nutrient lockout and the leaves were looking bad. I jumped into action and transplanted it into a 5 gallon Home Depot bucket and flushed the ever loving shit out of it......... It looks like it's going to make it.

One Dispensary said they carry clones closer to April, so there's a source.

Also found out that you don't need your Medical Card to buy Cannabis Seeds in Oklahoma.
Anyone can buy them. Good thing to know for anyone wanting them, and passing though.

Sorry for all the info, but the Holidays en sech.

Any pointers are welcome

Additional Follow up on the Clone Case:

It's only 14" tall after 3 1/2 months. It just went thru a battle with my stupidity,,,, and won.

However. In the process, I didn't have time to 'wait and see' so I thought it might have a calcium or manganese deficiency. I added bone meal as a top dressing before I flushed. I know it went right into the root system. I know it's not a fast 'water soluble', but some will be released at the time of watering.

It must have worked, because I cut all the old bad leaves off. and this plant is thriving.
However, it must noted that it's not really in height. An explosion of growth is happening from the nodes.

I think I put into flower or some shit.

It might turn out to be some kind of bonsai marijuana tree, with miniature buds or some shit.

Stay Tuned

I move them all into the house. They are doing fine now.

I don't like them in the house and the wife is not liking it, so out to the garage.
It takes up to much space, it's in front of shit I need to get to, I used a 6' ladder to hold the lights that I need, it's just not working out.

Have a 4x3 grow tent that can divide into a 3x3 and 1x3 if you want, and the 1x3 has a top and a bottom, so 3 total grow areas; with a 240 cfm venting system coming.
Needed more light, so ordered 2 more of the Groplanner 0 series 150W. I bought mine a couple of months ago for $107.
They dropped to $99. Then dropped to $85.

Found them for $44 each, bought 2 more; check it out. For a small indoor grow, I think 3 of these will do ok.
