Watching the Women’s Steeplechase. Pretty good.
Yep. This is the way I see it too. This is the yips, plain and simple. Having the yips in this sport can not only be so damaging to your team, it can be damaging to an athlete. Elena Mukhina was a Soviet gymnast pushed back fast from an injury for the 1980 Olympics. Her still injured leg gave out and the fall was so bad she ended up a quadriplegic and died young.
That’s pushing through a physical, and not mental injury. But the premise still holds. The yips are bad.
I was aware of all the going’s on since the last Olympics, and all that came out. While it’s the right thing to do to come out if you’ve been a victim of something like this it can still be hard. Her own statute surely made it that much more of a thing. She stuck to the kind of rigorous training, because that’s what she always did.
But the mind won’t just hold it forever. Shame is that it came up exactly at this point. But, in all that light it was still the right call to make.
Oh man….that first video with equestrian. I’m not even kidding…..put these guys on actual events and I’m super interested in the Olympics again.

now that’s a quitter. I’m not convinced Biles “quit” as others have said. Yes, she didn’t compete but she had reasons for not competing. Those reasons were more than “frustration”. Plus, she stayed and cheered on and encouraged her teammates to do well. Those are not the actions of a “quitter” as I define that word.

400 meter hurdles in under 46 seconds is fucking ridiculous. I remember in high school being proud when I first did that in the 300m hurdles, now add on that killer extra 100m and higher hurdles.

I was reading more about it. Other countries stepped up to offer a visa. Her husband made it out of the country and is on the way to Poland. FUBAR
