TOP 25... Overrated & Underrated

Not as much as others, I'd agree, but that '22 pick turned into 7 overall. And had a bunch of OT's and WR's, which would have helped them.

And yeah, I agree. Seemed like they paid for the 2019/2020 production. But Cleveland messed up the market with that terrible Watson deal. If Watson is as bad as he looked last year, yikes. Might be the worst contract ever. Would have been better paying Baker 7 million or whatever he's getting from Tampa this season.
Agree on both points :beer2:

Florida State and LSU overrated.

So, I took a few publications and popular websites and combined all the rankings to create this Preseason Top 25. Anybody extremely overrated/extremely underrated? Or just by a little. Who, not listed, should be? I know all the "precautions" related to preseason rankings, but just something to discuss for the upcoming season. What ya got?

1. Georgia
2. Michigan
3. Ohio State
4. Alabama
5. Penn State
6. Southern Cal
7. LSU
8. Florida State
9. Clemson
10. Washington
11. Notre Dame
12. Texas
13. Tennessee
14. Oregon
15. Utah
16. Wisconsin
17. Oregon State
18. Kansas State
19. Oklahoma
20. TCU
21. UCLA
22. Texas A&M
23. Ole Miss
24. North Carolina
25. South Carolina
I’m not sure that wouldn’t have LSU in the top 3-4, definitely would have em above USC and Penn State simply because they have a better coach.
Never know with Alabama, they may be worthy of the 1 spot or maybe 2-3 but I wouldn’t have Michigan ahead of them until Michigan starts beating the good SEC teams.

I expect Ohio State to be really good again so I don’t really have a problem with em in the top…4/5 but they need to prove that the QB spot is good yet again.

I would NOT have Texas or Notre Dame in the top 15-20, I think they have potential to finish high but at this point they have to prove it so.. make em climb the ladder.

Tennessee has too many questions to be in the top 15 as well, same as ND/Texas, potentially could be good again but also have a lot of production to replace, gotta earn it.

Oklahoma in the top 20? Yea they lost alot of close games last year and that might turn around this year but top 20 after that s**t show last year? :laugh:No.
No rank for you!

Kansas State should be higher imo, maybe even top 10ish. Big12 can be a roulette wheel because of the parity but they do have the best/most experienced OL returning and the returning champs so If have em top 10ish until they prove me wrong.

TCU lost a lot of production but they hit the portal for some potentially explosive players too so.. might have them a little higher TBH but again the Big12 is usually pretty unpredictable from 2 down.

Utah is probably a little too low.

UNC could also be too low, if they can get their defense to even a respectable level they might make a run.

A&M? After that? Really? No, make em earn it, no rank.

If you flipped OSU and PSU, I honestly wouldn't argue. I think they take a step forward at QB, they have a solid OL, and elite RB tandem, and the defense is still gonna be stout. They're my biggest concern for a loss this year tbh.
Yeah -- why worry about the team that has beaten you by 3 scores the last two years, while putting up 500+ yards of offense and 40+ points each time, who you have to play on the road and they are returning their entire offense.
Going to be fun listening to the excuses after this year's game.

You guys just don't scare me. Our loss last year was 100% on us and I think we can learn from our mistakes. It is what is it.

Yeah. It is always on the entire team when you give up 250+ yards rushing and 250+ yards passing to a team and lose by 3+ touchdowns.

And UM fans would agree with you -- with Ryan Day as Head Coach -- UM isn't scared of OSU either. I actually look forward to the game this year, just so I get to hear the new excuses you come up.

I dreaded playing OSU when the team had a backbone. They don't have one under Day and if you smack them in the mouth, they fold. Thankfully for OSU -- because of the enormous talent differential between OSU and all the teams on OSU's schedule -- it doesn't matter until they play Michigan and possibly Penn Stste in some years.

Kansas unranked and underrated. Coach Lance is building a machine.
Very dangerous team. That offense is going to score pts. Not sure they will make many stops on defense, but they are capable of upsetting someone this year

It's hard to see USC finishing that high. Last year they were mediocre on the road at best winning, but struggling against Oregon State, Zona (won easily, but gave up a lot of points), and UCLA, lost to Utah twice, and then ended the season with a loss against freaking Tulane.

All of that without having Oregon or Washington on their slate.

This year they have to beat Arizona State, Notre Dame, Oregon, and Cal on the road along with Utah, Washington, and UCLA at home? To reach 6th at the end of the year you would presume no more than one loss on that slate.

Not buying it. Sure, they might still be 10-15 on a solid season so I don't think they are massively overrated, but it's not setup for them nearly as easily as last year.

Also, half the Pac in the rankings. If they do have that many top talent teams they will feed on each other and knock some out. Doubt we see all 6 actually ranked at the end of the year. They don't get credit for beating each other up with the perception of the conference being weak overall.

UCLA skips UW and Oregon, but has USC and Utah both on the road. Could be a sleeper to rise up given they also play no one OOC, but that means they can't have more than one trip somewhere.

Yeah, UCLA is one to watch. They've gotten better every year under Chip Kelly (minus the covid season), and he's been through one recruiting cycle so his system's in place. Although he inherited more at Oregon, he had them firing on all cylinders there.

Helfrich inherited that system and even went (11-2) and (13-2) before it all crashed and burned.

Has Chip Kelly plateaued at UCLA? It doesn't look like he has. The question is how well it'll translate to Big 10 play come 2024 and beyond.

I'd hate to hear it too. But it is the truth. OSU is soft under Day. The defense can't handle getting smacked in the mouth and they don't have game changing talent on the defensive side of the ball to stop it.

Yet Harbaugh looks up at Ryan Day in regards to coaching accomplishments despite having twice as many years as a HC lol

What accomplishments? As Harbaugh stated -- some coaches are born on third base and think they hit a triple. Meyer handed Day a complete team -- he buried Harbaugh with that team his first year. They didn't play in year 2. Year 3 is a team filled with mostly Ryan Day recruits. SOFTEST OSU team I have seen in my lifetime. Last year was no different.

Last two years -- Michigan has over 1,000 yards of offense and almost 600 yards rushing.

And what coaching accomplishments? Which coach is back to back B1G champ? Which coach is 1-2 against the other and really it should be 0-2, because it wasn't his team that beat Michigan in year 1, it was Meyers.

I hope OSU gives Ryan Day a LOOOOOOONG extension. He is exactly what Michigan needs to overcome the recruiting gap between the schools.

Also, as Harbaugh stated - I'm going to have a sleepover with this teenage boy at his house. Dude is gross.

Congrats on 2 wins and continuing to embarrass the conference in the postseason, as this is essentially going to be Harbaugh's legacy.

Uhhhh congrats on Day's 1 win in 2019. Going to be another long, long year, because OSU will likely lose again this year. I cannot wait to hear the excuses.

What will the excuses be when Michigan puts up 500 yards of offense again, because it is going to happen.
