Yeah seems like one of those coaches that just isn't meant to be a HC but he has a clear specialty and that is defense. That would be a nice hire. Not crazy about the fit but a lot thought Chip was a bad fit and his best days were behind him too.

This seems like a similar situation to Chip where they are bringing in a very experienced guy to mentor the younger guy (Matt G) who will eventually become DC

Pretty much what it boils down to. 5 losses has happened once in my adult life, and it was only due to Fickell being thrown into the fire with about 3 months notice as a first time HC and a true freshman QB. Otherwise, it would be entirely unacceptable no matter who the coach was.
