Well aren't you just a barrel of Christmas spirit

Hey, I bought a few things for some people, then I changed my mind about giving them anything. Since I never told them I was gifting them, they won't know any better and I get my money back.

It's a win-win.

That you bought things for other people in the first place-- hang your head in shame

Where are the Dodgers getting all this money?

First that Ohtani dude at $700M, now this Admiral Yamamoto dude at $325M. WTF?

A few ways...

They have one of, if not the richest ownership groups in sports.

In 2013, they signed an $8.35 billion dollar deal with Time Warner that started in 2014, doesn't expire until 2039 and actually pays more later in the deal. The closest to that is probably the Yankees which is a 30-year $5.7 billion deal.

Over life of the contract, they will average $334 million per year in local tv money.

By way of comparison, the Giants have a 25-year, $1.75 billion dollar deal that will pay an average of $63 million per year in local tv revenue.

The 2nd highest in annual local tv revenue is the Angels who have a 20 year $3 billion deal that pays an average of $138 million per year.

That's just local tv revenue. That's not including ticket sales (they average over 3 million in attendance every year), merchandise sales and international marketing revenue which was already good and is expected to explode from having both Ohtani and Yamamoto on the team.

Don't forget the $136 million extension they gave Glasnow when they signed him.

And they'll both probably be injured next year... That's what usually happens after BIG deals like this. :heh:

lol

Probably. Shit, almost their entire starting pitching staff was out with injuries last year.

Japanese media will be all over this.

Over $1B on 3 players over the years. What about the rest of the rotation and roster? AAA players at rookie minimums?

Un-fucking-believable.

Thoughts and prayers.

That's why much of the salaries are deferred. It allows them flexibility.

It's going to be interesting to see what things look like in 10ish years when they're having to pay $68 million per year to a likely retired Ohtani. That's not counting Yamamoto's deal which will expire 2 years after Ohtani's.
