$ 10,500.00

11. The President will return to the Regents at a future meeting, after Pac-12 media
agreements are finalized, with a recommendation for a contribution by UCLA to the
Berkeley campus in the range of $2 million to $5 million, to be used to enhance student-
athlete support at that campus. Such recommendation will be based on the best available
information on proiected revenues for both campuses.

Is this a one time payment or are they on the hook every year?

Considering that UCLA says they're happy with it, I'd guess it's a one time payment.
I'd assume they'd have taken an "every year" thing to court.

"In a statement released after the vote, UCLA Athletic Director Martin Jarmond thanked the board for its discussions on the matter.

"We're excited to join the Big Ten Conference in 2024 and are grateful for the Board of Regents' thoughtful engagement in this decision,'' he said. "We've always been guided by what is best for our 25 teams and more than 700 student athletes, and the Big Ten offers exciting new competitive opportunities on a bigger national media platform for our student-athletes to compete and showcase their talent.''

Honestly, that's relative chump change. I think this was an instance where the board knew the financial benefits of the move but wanted to make it seem like they did something to punish them for leaving.

It's crazy that a board even has the power to do these things.

This is like parents telling one of their children "you got a better job than your brother so give him money"
That whole California university system is connected. I think it's more crazy that they think this is a bad thing for the school or it's athletes.

Exactly. If they want to get mad at someone/something, get mad at the PAC Conference, their continued ineptness, bad decisions and inability to lift the conference up like the SECC and B1G have done are what led to them and USC leaving for better pastures.

I think it's today's new mentality that everything has to be fair and equal. A school got a better deal for themselves and it made other people jealous

Let's face it folks. The ACC, Big 12 and PAC 12 are just going to have to figure out how to be competitive with the B1G/SEC while receiving only 1/2 as much media revenue. If another school wants B1G/SEC level media revenue, get one of those conferences to offer you an invitation to join them.

Those conferences won't offer you such unless you can bring additional revenue equal to what your proportional share would be plus some. And we know there is only one out there that can even come close to that.

For the record, this is a stupid decision by both the B1G and UCLA/USC. Its just ridiculous.

Then this reparation booshit? Was Gavin Newsome involved?

how much longer until Cal goes to FCS and their biggest rival will be Sacramento State

Then this reparation booshit? Was Gavin Newsome involved?

He tried to rattle his sword about it.

Mostly, he and the Board of Regents were pissed that UCLA didn't ask for their permission.

Making them pay $2-5 million to their "sister school" makes it look like they punished UCLA and keeps them from facing a lawsuit that they would likely lose.

I think USC should either pay Cal 5 million as well or lose their state tax-exempt status.

Yahoo sports reporting it is a annual payment. Insane...

That’s what I wasn’t sure about because it wasn’t clear. I mean when you are talking about 50 million a year vs 25 million it’s worth it but Cal isn’t doing anything for that money.

Unlike @Red_Alert I’m not sure they can take them to court because 1 they are part of the same system so it’s like suing yourself and 2 it opens a can of worms of financial harm caused to Cal by UCLA leaving.

They are just going to have to live with it and be prepared that Cal is always going to want more and UCLA is always going to want to stop paying.

California is messed up.

You asked if Gavin Newsom was involved in bullshit?

No they aren't...other than being a member of the country club.

But, IMHO there are a lot of P5 teams that aren't "earning" nearly what they are receiving. They're living off the the country club tit...just not to the extent Cal is...at least in this case.

But the difference between those weaker schools in the B1G or SEC and this is Cal is actually directly taking money from UCLA here
