They were. But my argument is that it was entirely because of Walker. A bit like Michigan with Denard in Hoke's first year, vs. without Denard in Hoke's second. In terms of total defense, MSU finished last year at #110. They currently sit at #105. if you plopped walker back on this team, MSU is likely sitting at 6-1, with a loss to Ohio State in similar fashion to last year.
I think they’re gonna have a combination of being full of themselves after beating Bama and looking ahead to UGA next week and come out flat. Kentucky is good enough to beat em if Tennessee doesn’t take em seriously, and I think that’s what’s gonna happen

Given their backups, especially last year, that is entirely possible. In 2020 they had 0 rushing TD's. Having a guy like Walker also opens up the passing game because people devote coverage to him. that's why MSU's passing game looked so much better last year, even with the same guys returning this year.
I just looked it up, they went from #122 in rushing in 2020, to #53 in 2021 and are now back down to #116. I think that's a directly linked to a single player, Walker.
Their an entire offense took a jump forward last year. Passing numbers also jumped thru the roof. Maybe that and offensive line play helped those rushing numbers. They all play off of each other. Chalking it up to a single player is asinine.
Walker’s offensive line was like Barry Sanders offensive line. The defensive backs were two yards past the line of scrimmage before the RB touched the ball.
