Exactly. They are a marginally improved team compared to recent years, but still lost to a really bad Ga State team (oddly enough that was also by far the most points Ga State has scored this year). Their offense is weak (106th in passing, 84th in rushing), the defense is obviously nothing special. Ole Miss losing to Kentucky is bad enough, but still not as bad as Bama losing to Vandy.

Kentucky is not anywhere near as good or talented as Oregon, Ohio State or Penn State IMO. Indiana? Who knows? My guess is that Kentucky would be somewhere between Indiana (who I think looks fabulous but is untested) fighting with Illinois / Iowa, etc. this year. Five and below in the B1G is dreadful THIS year, so if Kentucky played Indiana's schedule - which so far has been against the Lower Depths (Hello, Maxim Gorky!) of the B1G - they might have a better record than they do. They have some losses to average and bad teams, but just getting Georgia and Tennessee off the schedule might have them at 5-4 instead of 3-6 (using the IU schedule only). If they played Oregon, Ohio State or Penn State, they would lose. Probably would lose to Indian too (just using their schedule as an example). Either way, It's Basketball Season in the Commonwealth!

But this is the exact reason the SEC is tougher than the B1G IMO. The B1G hasn't had any mid/lower level teams that have beaten the top dogs. They have top teams and then basically layups for those top teams. If some of those mid/lower teams would man up and upset the biggies sometimes, it would make the conference better and a lot more interesting IMHO. The Rutgers, Marylands, etc need to step up and pull off some win over OSU, Michigan and Penn State. At least this year Oregon and Indiana have joined the party.

Not trying to pump up Kentucky as much as saying if they played IU's schedule instead of their own, they might be 5-4 instead of 3-6 right now. So, a notch below Illinois (6-3) and Iowa (6-4) would be more appropriate.
Only IF Kentucky had a Rutgers, Indiana or Penn State type schedule. Rutgers avoids, Ohio State, Penn State, Indiana, Oregon AND Michigan....even though Michigan might have been a win for them this year. I'd agree with your work associate if they had that kind of B1G schedule. Probably not if they had to play some of the top four. Indiana and Penn State play Ohio State in conference and that's it other than middling/poor.
Agree, but I thought that idea that when we went to the 12 team CFP, and the B1G and the SEC grabbed all the good teams, was that we recognized that there are large disparities in win/loss status. I agree that there is no excuse for losing to lousier teams, but the idea has been to look at the "body of work" not just count losses because all W/L records aren't equal. It's really that simple, and yes, you should get docked if you lose to a bad team. But you should also get docked if you don't play any good teams. If that gets ignored, the SEC and the B1G will insist on 4 AQs with the 2 top byes being their CCs, and people will stop scheduling good OOC games. You think that Clemson is going to keep playing UGA if getting that loss every year means another ACC loss and they are out of the CFP?
Read all my posts. I say exactly that about Texas in every post. Seeing as how I am the SEC voice here, you just aren't paying attention. I am the one saying that if Texas loses to ATM, they should be out of the CFP. Same with IU.
BTW, you can minimize "body of work" and SOS all you want, but if you want to have more great games, you better want that body of work and SOS gets taken into consideration. Otherwise, the SEC won't go to 9 IC games, and no one will schedule tough OOC.
