I grew up in the "Moonshine Capital of the World", which IIRC @jeffro151 did as well, albeit a handful of years behind me. It's so ingrained in our culture that every home either has shine on hand, or could get it within an hour. Hell, they made a movie (Lawless) where Tom Hardy spent several days with very close friends of mine and descendants of the family featured in the movie to research the local dialect and mindset. Granted, I cringed every time they mentioned Franklin, VA, which is a city, and not Franklin County, VA, in the movie.

I actually started mixing shine with fruit and sugar around 5 years old (damsons is still my favorite), along with helping run an occasional still during my adolescence.

There's a lot of "boasting" in the thread about how much someone can drink, but I guarantee you, I know at least a dozen or more that would laugh their ass off if they cared to read some of these posts.

I'm no longer one that is worried about "drinking someone under the table", I'd rather prefer enjoying what I do drink...the flavor, the "buzz", the conversations, along with the bedroom activities....and remembering what happened the next day.

While this thread took a turn towards "boasting", my original intent was directed to those you'd like to have a few beers, mixed drinks, or even water with, but enjoy the conversation AND remember what happened later. Not turn into a competition about what someone can drink.

Variety is the spice of life. Sometimes 3-4 drinks makes for a fine night and sometimes alcohol poisoning is just enough.

This the thread where we brag about how much we can drink???

Got my hands on some damsons and peach over the weekend from my guy in Snow Creek. It's amazing how smooth the good stuff is compared to the store bought stuff. These city boys don't even know.

Snow Creek was my neck of the woods.

About eight years ago, my group of drinking buddies were all sitting around talking about their gout stories. I didn't have one. Their response was 'if you haven't had gout by now then you're probably not going to get it'. I think we were around 30 at the time.

Its a good thing I settled my ass down.

how the hell were they all getting gout? i thought that was an old man's disease...?

I can't do it anymore, man. It's just not worth it for me. if I'm going to get shitfaced, there'd better be a comfortable bed pretty near and I need at least three days with no responsibilities to recover. I almost entirely stopped that stuff.

What works well for me now is to drink early in the day but take it easy and drink lots of water and take plenty of caffeine. The Monster Energy Zero's work well.

As far as drinking 47 beers in one day like I used to and then get up the next day and do it again? Never going to happen again for me.

when i think back about it, I marvel at how i used to drink in my early 20's, particularly given the fact that i was active duty at the time. getting piss drunk on a wednesday night until 2am, then waking up for an hour-hour and a half of PT at 6:00am like it was no big deal? sheeeeeeeyuuut. if i even THOUGHT of trying to do something like that now, i'd drop dead on the spot. and i'm only 39!

One would think.

I think the difference is that if I went to see a DJ or a concert then the drink would be overpriced and full of ice. I also wouldn't care that much because I'd be there for the music and the afterparty. My friends were the type to hit up the shots menu.

To quote the prophets from the Park of Linkin: Forfeit the game before someone takes you out of the frame. The pace is too fast you just wont last

my buddy had gout when we were in our 20s It was bc of how much drinking he did. Sadly, he died in his 30s
