Who Does Oklahoma talk to, throw a name in the hat.

SI retracted that article.

Have to figure it's Fickell, Lanning, or Aranda.

Finally heard something that is no shit. There is a lot of discussion about OU's willingness to spend the money necessary to bring it up to the level of commitment Oklahoma will need in order to be competitive in the SEC and more than one candidate has raised tough questions. Resources cost money and it's really waking some people up about what success in the SEC is likely going to demand. The head coach's salary isn't the issue; it's more about recruiting budgets, assistant coaching salaries and some damned expensive improvements in facilities, etc. Here is the conundrum: OU hiring anyone who doesn't have the resources to do the job right in the SEC is a recipe for eventual failure. But asking the donors to pony up the money + using a substantial portion of the expected higher revenues from SEC membership to make those resources available is a helluva financial commitment to make. Resources. But apparently it's THE elephant in the room. And if we do spend a God-awful amount of money, how is it spent....how is it raised....and who will be the HC/staff trying to leverage it? OU was pretty comfortable in the Disfuctional XII and this whole move to the SEC is proving to be a lot for OU to bite off.
GB, I'm having a hard time believing that OU is THAT far behind the SEC in facilities. Maybe the Bama, LSU types. But not Mizzou, South Carolina, etc. What am I missing?

Being reported around here that Venables and Lebby is a done deal

Mainly the extra $$$ for "all the other things".

Lord Saban has a braintrust around him at all times that makes some NFL teams look poor in comparison. "Analysts" and "quality control" guys...virtually any HC or Coordinator worth their salt to some degree find their way onto his staff. All those peeps cost $$$. I'd like to see a comparison of $$$ spent by 'Bama vs OU on recruiting efforts. I bet there is a big discrepancy.

The BMDs can bellyache and whine all they want...but buying a Honda and wishing it was a Ferrari doesn't make the Honda a Ferrari. You don't get dynasties on a tight budget in CFB.

I don't think Venables and Lebby would be moving this way unless there is a marked and distinct commitment from the $$$ people to ensure they have whatever they need to build something worthwhile.

Wonder how many people have turned them down at this point?

The support systems more than facilities then, correct? And the "dynasty" part is the difference because I can't imagine Mizzou, Miss State, etal spending the amounts money you describe that Bama is with Saban.

This sounds like Jimbo to A&M but without said coach having a natty on his resume. FSU wouldn't spend to the levels he thought they should so he found a place that would.
