The team takes on the identity of the head coach. No one and I mean NO ONE looks at Ohio as a tough, physical team. That is 100% on Ryan Day. It is why everyone laughed out loud as he tried to convince himself Ohio was tough and physical after beating ND.

If you don't know what it means by taking on the identity of a coach -- look at the Detroit Lions. Th ey have taken on Dan Campbell's identity as a hard nosed, tough, gritty team. The players will run thru a wall for him. The Ohio team is the opposite of that. You know what Ohio's team was doing before the Michigan game last year on the field? They had a dance circle on the field pre-game. Fans in the stands were laughing as the coaching staff allowed it.

A HC can and will completely change the identity of a school. You act like I am the only one calling Ohio soft under Day. EVERYONE calls them that. Ohio is a finesse team and can't handle getting punched in the mouth. Top 5 teams can punch Ohio in the mouth. Day is now 1-7 against those teams.

Michigan's offense isn't even MAC level. It is one of the worst offenses I have seen and we've had bad offenses in the past. Even worse -- it isn't just bad -- it is undisciplined and has turned the ball over 12 times. It is the exact opposite of what an offense under Harbaugh has been. That should tell you how a HC makes a world of difference.

Sherrone Moore look atrocious up to this point.

Don't sweat it -- Ohio may have a chance this year. Then you don't have to strain yourself thinking back to that day in 2019 when you last beat Michigan on the field. 2019:pound:

I think my favorite part of this is -- Ohio spent $20+ million trying to buy themselves an undefeated season and national championship and just like that it is Ore...............Gone.

Use that money to buy out Ryan Day and get rid of your Charmin soft identity.
 
What comes to mind regarding the Ryan Day thing, is that Harbaugh took the same criticisms in his first 7 years at Michigan about record against ranked opponents, record in big games, etc.

The difference being Harbaugh lost 6 bowl games in a row.

Day's main problem is that he is very stuck in his ways and refuses to make proper changes mid game/mid season and then at the end of the year he hangs on to dead weight too long, you can't be like that and succeed at a high level.

Like I said in the other thread, he'd be a very nice coach for a Purdue type team but he's not going to win you national titles at the highest level.

I hate that Michigan sucks so bad this year because Day is going to get a pat on the back for easily beating a dilapidated Michigan squad.

It's infuriating watching his clock management issues, as that's been the difference between a win and a loss on the big stage twice now. That said, I fully believe we can win a title with him considering how close we got just a couple years ago. He's gotta stop dicking around late in games though.

That's a problem among many coaches.

Not only is coaching a "fraternity", you have coaches too loyal to their friends.
They don't want to have to put their friends and friends family into the unemployment line.

The best example of that I have is Bill Callahan being that way with Kevin Cosgrove at Nebraska. Nebraska's defense was atrociously terrible and it ultimately cost Callahan his job.

Ryan Day is horrible at clock management.

When the tv announcers and us armchair QB's are pointing it out, you know it's a problem.

I’ll never understand how someone smart enough to make it to being a HC at a a high level can struggle with clock management. Hell, there’s plenty of NFL HC’s with the same issue.

I’d be in way over my head if I had to be a head football coach in most aspects, but I feel I’d have clock management down before day one

Michigan is NOWHERE NEAR, where Ohio is recruiting wise. Prior to adding Oregon and USC -- you could have combined every school's recruiting class in the B1G and Ohio would still have more talent.

I'm not pounding my chest saying Michigan is an elite program. Michigan is a 2nd tier program and not even one of the top 2nd tier programs.

Michigan needed the star to align, have a Covid year to give guys an extra year, have a 1st round NFL pick at QB for the first time since Harbaugh, while others had new QBs to win a title.

If Michigan were pulling in top 5 recruiting classes every year. I would absolutely be calling for heads if Michigan was getting pounded by other top 5 schools every game.
