Worst Song

A lot of times, the most well-known song by a band is one of their worst.

Steppenwolf - the motorcycle song
Deep Purple - Smoke on the Water
Marshall Tucker Band - Can't You See
the who - Pinball Wizard
Rolling Stones - Start Me Up
Skynyrd - Freebird
Canned Heat - Goin' up the Country (which they poached)
Grateful Dead - Truckin'
Allman Brothers - Ramblin' Man

I liked smoke on the water. It was My woman in Tokyo that left a bad taste in my mouth. Probably all the dicks there before me, but I digress.

Edit: wait damn it...I like a bunch of those songs. :puzzled:

You can like em and I won't give you a hard time, it's just that often they're not really representative of the sound or the talent that a group has.

This is what we've been talking about, the difference between commercial success versus critical success. Company labels want 3 minute ditties that can get radio play and sound snappy. once you buy the album, you go "whoa, I never realized these guys rocked so hard"

Just like @Kburjr when he finally bought an REO Speedwagon album

That’s not what “worst” means, you illiterate fuck.

I dislike Truckin, but I’ll but I’ll listen to it a hundred times before I’ll listen to Sunrise, or any other song featuring that cackling succubus, Donna Jean. That shit’s the worst.

REO II is a kick ass album.

REO II is a kick ass album.
Early REO when they were playing bar band music was their finest. When Cronin rejoined the group, he took it as a license to run the whole shoe and went totally pop. High Infidelity, my ass. Give me more Richrath any day.

UFO with Schenker only my all time favorite band. No Heavy Petting had 2 of the best including 2 Mt. Rushmore tracks, but this one the worst for the Schenker years.

Commercial appeal still means lots of people like it. But by definition, something has to be the worst song by any given group - even if you and thousands of other deluded stans still like it

It’s the ascent.

Saw them at a place called Humpin Hannahs in 73. Them and Cheap Trick were playing the night club scene in brew town in the 70's.

Good times.

Saw Cheap Trick quite a few times on the Rockford to Beloit circuit back in the day. Heard about REO while I was at UW and made a couple trips to Central Illinois to see them.
