Your punk Mount Rushmore

Talking Heads were a bunch of 80' techno-pop crap. I don't think I ran around with anyone in my group of thugs that listened to them.
That’s too bad, but it checks out, that’s the first time I’ve ever seen them described that way.

Punk was a rebellion against the excesses of prog rock. Strip it down, play it fast and rebel against the man. Sounds like garage band music. Punk is a branch of the bigger tree called rock. The definition can be broad or it can be narrowed down. Same type of arguments you hear about metal.

hm: The Patti Smith Band

Sorry, but yeah. If we are talking about puck rock proper then for me, the Talking Heads aren’t even close. But, I’ll give then a try again 35 years later. LOL

Talking Heads = Duran Duran

Oof. Not at all (and I like Duran Duran). I agree that Talking Heads don’t come to my mind when thinking of Mt Punkmore, but they came up through that New York scene, they were a regular at CBGB. Their music was more versatile than a stereotypical punk band, went in a bunch of different directions other than hard and fast, but they were right there (physically) with the rest of them. A basic created for the masses pop band they were not, in any sense.

When I read his original statement I thought he was equating Talking Heads to A Flock of Seagulls

I get his vibe. Back then, they ostensibly were Duran Duran, in that most only heard their radio stuff, and you had hardcore and thrash going on simultaneously. You listened to those, or you were a fag. LOL

I hate these things....the word "YOUR" in the thread title changes everything. I read it as MY personal mt rushmore.

If I were listing THEE mt rushmore of punk, it'd prolly look a little different.
That’s what was intended. I wouldn’t expect The Beat Farmers to be on the consensus Mt Rushmore, but they’re the first band mentioned on mine

It bugs me I can't even make a Dwight Schrute joke here, cuz you've never watched the damned show.

I’ve watched it, I just don’t care for it. Parks and Rec was infinitely better.

But, Country Dick Montana would whip Dwight’s ass

I barely just watched it through a couple of years ago. I never watched it while it ran. I FUCKING hated it at first. Thought Steve Carrell was so fucking annoying, but I powered thru the first few episodes, maybe even the first season, and somehow that fucker plants its seeds.

Now? I think it may be the most re-watchable tv show of all-time.

You probably have the popular take because it’s on every fucking night on Comedy Central other than South Park Wednesdays.

Just never appealed to me. I’ve never worked in an office setting. I watched the entire series. I thought each new character introduced was more annoying than the last.

People say the first season of Parks and Rec was bad, but they turned the corner in season 2 and hit their stride in season 3, but I’d put the first season of Parks and Rec over any season of The Office

I was just going through a box of cassettes I bought last week at a rummage sale. Woooo-Heee, found a Violent Femmes tape. On the player now.
Even if I bought an box of cassettes, I’d have no means to play them. Even my 84 F-250 only has an AM-FM radio
