I haven't had time to wrap my brain around it, but I am not convinced that the SEC and B1G have to grow more. Getting more teams may mean you get more money overall, but it doesn't mean you get more money per team, and that's the goal.
Adding teams, especially with crazy geographic issues, doesn't necessarily mean you get more money. OU, TX, and USC? Sure. UCLA got lucky that USC needed a buddy. If they add any more PAC teams it will have more to do with scheduling or facilitating the west coast problems as it does profitability.
We all agree that Notre Dame is the one school left to get. The ACC should consider going to 16 by adding WVU and ND (not likely in my opinion), and then hanging on for life. The PAC and B12 should merge creating a 16, 18, or 20 team league, getting rid of the dead weight (WSU, OSU). There are some serious problems with Stanford and Cal not likely agreeing to join. That will leave us with a top 2 P5, and a lower 2 P5. All at about 16 teams.
There is some profitability left with some of the ACC schools but I would say your points are valid. Clemson, Florida State, and North Carolina are still solid brands.
One school that isn't discussed for the B1G that might come up is Boston College. That is another one of Notre Dame's annual rivals that they may want in the B1G to make the move. It also opens up another major metropolitan market to the B1G.
