2023 Recruiting Thread

man..i'm ready for the landthieves to come out and roast me when Pettaway chooses them :( I really like that kid, but he just doesn't like "fast pace" living in Austin :(
Maybe he just want's to live the strait life and not the gay life.

Notre Dame comes into Texas and gets...

Peyton Bowen #51
Braylon James #117
Micah Bell #120
Jaden Greathouse #113 (assuming he commits)

For a school that recruits across the country and with their academic requirements that eliminate a lot of candidates, that's a good haul - 4 of the top 20 players in the state. Or put it this way, they have more of the top 20 recruits in Texas than Texas does!

Texas has been okay to us, but we really have stepped it up this cycle. Getting 4 top 120 guys nationally is huge.

well at least the kids are smart and don't want to go to ou... sorta like how the top in state oklahoma kids all want to head out..

Edit i just looked at the the top players in oklahoma (only 5 4 stars).. and none of them have chosen ou.. lol the top player is Fong'd to michigan st? LOL thought BV was the answer for defense?? ouch man.. i mean even John Blake recruited better out the gate than this..

BTW only half of the top 20 players from On3 consensus have committed.. I'm pretty confident my Horns will eventually add a few more..in the top 10 of the list..

It’s July. It’s fine.

I don't think so. You're currently ranked 53rd, and only have crystal balls for 6 total players. With two of them being 3 stars. That MIGHT sneak Michigan inside the top 35. For comparison sakes ND has the #1 class and has crystal balls for 4 players at the moment. All being 4 stars.

It’s July. No, Michigan won’t be competing for the #1 class this year. Michigan will most likely end up in the top 20 still.

You have to remember we had the whole Harbaugh thing in Feb and lost both our coordinators. So it’s going to take some time to build up relationships with kids again.

Well the Michigan State kid is from Africa and has only lived in Oklahoma for 2 years. The Arkanas wr I'm not sure OU even offered. They wanted him as a DB but he wanted to play wr. And white wr going to Alabama OU wasn't real high on either. Down year for Oklahoma high school talent. I see the top linebacker in Florida just put OU in his top 3. OU doing work late. Oh and thanks for the congrats on Pettaway.

Even if Michigan ends up somewhere between 20-25, that's still pretty awful considering where Michigan normally ends up.

Also, I understand the whole Harbaugh thing, but that's a pretty lame excuse. ND lost its HC, and like 6 assistants and is still killing it.

I think around 20 is the "best case" scenario for Michigan as it stands

They are not realistically in the running for any top 100 players, and only currently in the running for like a handful of 4*

There is going to be A LOT of Harbaugh special 3 star reaches in this class to fill it out.

If you look at quality instead of quantity. Average recruit rank instead of class points total. Michigan would still only be 31st tie with Nebraska and not too far ahead of Northwestern. That's pretty bad.

The gap between top 5 and 20-25 is pretty massive.

Harbaugh seems to be that guy that takes the money, then starts showing up to work doing the absolute bare minimum until his lack of productivity leads to them paying his ass more money to just go away.

Yeah, they just aren't in the running for that many prospects to land inside the top 20. I'm pretty surprised given they are coming off their best season in a quarter century. This type of class could really set them back in 25' and 26'

There are rumblings that Harbaugh has wanted nothing to do with recruiting and has been pretty much "hands off" all offseason. Even if you have the best assistants in the world, that is still going to hurt you when the head coach wants nothing to do with it.

A combination of how their season ended (UGA showing they still aren't anywhere close to a serious power) assistants leaving and Harbaugh being Harbaugh has really hurt them. All of that combined basically negated any momentum they could had possibly gained by finally beating Ohio State and winning the B1G

These days it's going to take a lot more than 1 conference championship/playoff appearance season out of 7 to turn the tide with recruits.

Also it doesn't help that how Michigan is going about NIL is apparently nowhere close to par with other schools. (IDK how true this is but Michigan fans claim it)

Well have to revisit in December. We’ve had plenty of top 15 classes which lacked top 100 talent. I’m fairly confident we’ll grab 10 or so four star kids and land somewhere in the top 20.

We’ve also had pretty inconsistent recruiting under Harbaugh. Seems like every other year is less than great and then the following year he’ll haul in a top 6 class.

Can you say something negative every day? That’d be great.

He was long considered a lock to you guys. He was baked into any projection I was throwing out. Congrats, you landed one of the 6 who were Crystal Ball'd to go to Michigan.
