TV Series Better Call Saul

Sat in silence for awhile after this one.

You know a television series has hit the mark when it honestly bothers you.

Fuck me dude. That was some good shit.

Like I've already said I didn't really enjoy at all how they got Lalo there but honestly it didn't matter. They could have not shown him once until this episode and I think it would have been better, but whatever.

Damn good.

I actually feel for Howard. That dude was done dirty at every step. Seriously, I think the first time I ever really felt he was sleezy was when he was ambulance chasing the old lady with the wheelchair.

Yeah once the reveal happened (I think in Season 1) that it was Chuck holding Jimmy back, he's been a sympathetic character.

I think that was the point.

Nobody else but Howard would have been in a position to call Kim 'soulless' in his ending monologue.
And that has to hit home.

I will admit, when Howard first walked into the room as a shadow, I actually thought it was Lalo.
Top notch writing, directing, and production values.

He’s always had a sleezy lawyer feel about him. In this episode when he was wheeling her into the room, realizing something was wrong with him, and then puts on a fake smile right before walking in, it’s shown him doing that a couple times throughout the series.

The BB universe is pretty great with the no one is pure bad or pure good Vonnegutesqe no heroes/villains storytelling kinda vibe.

But other than having fake businessman/lawyer feel to him, he’s definitely one of the more sympathetic and innocent characters of either series. I don’t think it’s his innocence and just being a tool of Chuck, and later Jimmy that makes him so sympathetic. But it’s because he is flawed in very real ways that make him relatable. His actions were always self serving, but in very real, largely well meaning ways.

I’m rambling again, but he was a great character and deserves some thought.

I agree 99.9%

I don’t agree that Howard putting in his game face before entering the room was sleezy in any way. That is just putting on your big boy pants and doing your business.

That doesn’t excuse the wheelchair, though.

Finally finished my way through the available on streaming series by finishing season 5 earlier today.

Season 6 probably won't be available to stream until 2023. I haven't re-watched Breaking Bad and only watched it when it originally aired. Do I start that re-watch now just finishing 5 seasons of Better Call Saul over the past 2-3 months or do I wait until I can watch the final 6th season before starting my Breaking Bad re-watch?

I don't want to deal with commercials or any watching it on my computer. I'll just wait till its available 4k on Netflix.

Episode 8 was shown at the Tribeca Film Festival, so it's been spoiled all over the internet and that's annoying.

I guess I'll finally watch this since I've run out of stuff.

Maybe Lalo goes right off the bat?
Maybe Kim takes him out?

But if he is killed, and Saul is aware of it, than his scene with Walt and Jesse doesn’t make sense. How would Lalo send them after him if Lalo is dead?

I still don’t think Kim dies…

Other thoughts:

They’ve wrapped up a lot already, we’ve pretty much just got Kim/Jimmy’s relationship to wrap up, Jimmy’s full descent into Saul, Lalo (now tied back into Kim and Jimmy’s story), and the Gene timeline to resolve.

All those lose ends are tied together and there’s plenty of episodes left to sort it all out. Gonna be some good stuff.

I think Gus will kill Lalo, Kim will either be spooked out of the Saul path she’s on and disappear, or Jimmy will do something she can’t forgive. I just can’t get my head around how the BB Saul exists if the person he cared for the most in his former life died because of something he was involved with. It’s easy to accept that character if his former love interest left him though.
