Ive been a union roofer for 40 yrs,and just wanting to know if you had closures installed at the edge of your gutter line........

It helps keep weather out such as blowing rain or snow,not to mention birds,bats and insects from housing up in there.....

So if you didnt,there is a simple solution,get you some brillo and stuff up in there,theres no birds,bats or insects gonna gnaw thru that to make a home.......Dont use foam,birds will peck thru it......


Check your ridge and rake for any possible openings where that can happen......
 
And Peter is right,masonary of any type,is not good to reduce the coldness from outdoors.....
Even tho tar paper was used for a vapir barrier,it will still condensate if you plan on heating the inside......Ive seen it time and time again......

Have 1 gutter that leads into a 65 gallon water tank on the backside.

Answer is yes we sealed everything up with wood and used a lot Cauk!! Haha. Bugs alone out there would be brutal and the birds in there until we did it.

We left the 1x6’s off the wall so it can breathe for now. So you can see the frame on the inside. Not super worried about it, Pete’s just a helluva inspector lol

One last thing about the fasteners you used to secure your roof,over time those rubber washers will dry out and crack,your roof will lek and you wont notice it till its possibly too late,so in a few years,Id grt up there and insoect your fasteners.....if you can actually turn those by hand,its time to put in new ones......dont use a silicone caulk to dab them with,it wont hold.......Ive done countless roof repairs on those type of roofs.......best is to replace them.....

Not trying to take away from your cabin there cause its an awesome place and would love to have it,but things you may not know now could help you out in the future....

Ive got a 24x44 mortenson building just built that Im making into a mancave,anf I have the same type of roof,so Ill be doing the same.....
I plan on posting pics when Im finished.....

Ps......love the stkne work along with the door.....awesome job man......

This shit right here..... will seal them screws for life.

Back the screws out, put a nice blob of this on the screw, and run it back in.

Theres not a tube of caulk ever that has worked.....We take out the old and put in a fresh screw.....caulk does not seal to metal,you have to use a certain primer first,let dry,then caulk ....if you dont use a primerr,it always loosens up around the edges.
Not too mention the gawdy mess primer and caulk leaves behind.....nothing worse than looking up at a nice metal roof,and seeing dabs of caulk left behind.......
Ive seen plastic cement,seen rubber roofing material from custodians and owners,and they all make a mess of it and end up calling us......and I have used vulkem and a few different caulks to help seal leaks in a pinch......we always go back to fix it right.....

Use fresh gasket screws,it takes just a second to take them out and put them back in with a cordless,not to mention it looks more professional than caulk............

You have obviously had no experience with that material. Its not caulking, and its not silicone. It will last longer than any rubber gasket you can buy. That shit is bullet proof, for lack of a better term.

Just because you are sloppy with your caulk, doesnt mean everyone cant use it clean.

I saw a guy do it in a few spots in a cabin in Utah shoved steel wool in the holes, shot a little expanding foam, and left it. Came back a couple days later, cut off the excess foam, and sanding down flat, and painting it the color of the house. Looked like it was never there.

The foam will break down if exposed to sunlight, but if you cover it it will last longer.

Thats not it,lol......Caulk Will NOT stick to metal......oh it sticks,but in a month you can go back and pull it off.....
Theres a liquid nail type of stuff that comes in a tube that will harden up,but with the movement of a metal roof,it ends up cracking.......

Other options we use is Inland or H.E.R. system.,but we only use that if the customer has already used other means to try and stop their leak......
And that is brush gradable,its a 3 step system.....You brush on the first coat,put a piece of cloth fabric over that,then brush on the next coat....it lasts.....for a few years......and its expensive.

So if a person does a quick inspection of their roof every few years,they can save a ton of money.....

Theres no better way than a fastener that its intended for.....Theres been a few times that you can still turn the screw by your fingers because of the movement of the building,but you just put a bigger gasket screw in it......
Snow and ice will do that......especially along gutter edges.....

You dont know the difference between these materials. Caulking is generally latex or acrylic. Silicone is oil based, but that henrys shit is different. That shit will stick to asphalt shingles for 20 years. You are just wrong on that. Not reading that wall od text. You keep saying caulking and it is NOT caulking
