But that doesn’t mean they spend it on college sports.
What the hell are they gonna air on Saturday's then?

Other than pac12? Probably something just slightly less boring, like golf reruns. What the hell are they gonna air on Saturday's then?

There's still a TON of inventory ESPN has to fill. During conference play, once OU and Texas join, there's only going to be at a max 8 SEC games. But most weeks it will be 7 games. Between ABC and ESPN/2/U and the SECN, there is a potential of 18 games per week. That leaves about 11 games per week they need content for. The ACC isn't going to be able to fill that alone. The P12 and B12 are viable options.
8 games is still plenty plus they would get OOC matchups as well which could give a lot more games.
ESPN has basically 4 channels for CFB (ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPNU).
You can broadcast 3-4 CFB games per slot (exception being Pac12 Night games). You have the Noon, 2:30, 5:30, and 8:00 slot. Sometimes a night cap as well. Keep in mind ESPN has the ACC and American as well.
Historically, ESPN has only been showing B1G Games in Noon and 2:30 slots and they haven't been that common since the B1G Network came around. Most of the big-time B1G games have been on Fox over the past 5 years anyways.
So ESPN will just need to fill the Noon and 2:30 slots at the current rate. They could try to get more SEC games from SEC Network and/or ACC/American games in that slot.
Also Big12 could sign on with ESPN.
This definitely helps the Big12/Pac12 situation. However, Pac12 may need to have sacrifices (more Noon games) to get some of the early slots.
ABC/ESPN/2/U broadcast a total of 27 B1G games last year. That's a lot of inventory to replace. I don't think pulling games off of the SECN and ACCN is a very good strategy. ESPN doesn't want to air games like Vandy vs. South Carolina on ESPN. Just like they didn't want to broadcast Rutgers vs. Illinois. They need to partner with the Big 12 and P12 to fill the inventory. SportsCenter or College Football Final, if aired after a 7:00/7:30 game on ESPN isn't going to bring in the audience that a P12 game would. They need those late window games to attract an audience.
Face it.... If a game between ranked teams on ESPN is a blowout, I'm switching to a more competitive game with unranked teams on FS1.
All that matters here is 'Will I get plenty of CFB options to meet MY preferences on my TV'?
That answer is yes.

27 games over 15 weeks is only 1.8 games a week. That is basically two games they need to find. It will be more of an issue in October/November timeframe. September is full of OOC games that ESPN can carry which are sometimes relegated to lesser channels.
Big12 alone could fill those spots plus more. ESPN can also just show G5 games and probably not see that much of a rating drop. It is my understanding that none of the high profile B1G games have been on ESPN lately (correct me if I am wrong).

None of the highest profile games, but they still had Michigan vs. PSU, Michigan vs. Nebraska, OSU vs. PSU, OSU vs. MSU, Auburn vs. PSU, and Iowa vs. Wisconsin. So definitely some good games and highly rated games. This year they have ND vs. OSU in OOC.
2 games/week doesn't seem like a lot, but they will need acquire more games than what they currently have with the B12 and P12. If Fox or DTC companies get some of those rights they may have trouble filling those spots with P5 games.
I just want to play aggy on Thanksgiving again..I am not saying it is NOT a loss, I am saying ESPN will still be fine. They still have more game options than CBS/Fox, for example. Also, ESPN2/ESPNU always had those lesser games anyone. There are enough high profile SEC games to fill ABC/ESPN.
Basically all of these ESPN Ancillary channels are really only pulling games that the fanbases of both teams would watch anyways and they are usually overshadowed by the games on ABC/ESPN/Fox.

for us, but I'm sure Purdue vs IN on CBS will beat us by a few mill in the ratings deptYou will get your wish I am sure. That first game between the two of you will be hype central.
