My week 2 b1gw ranking
Minnesota.
Wisconsin.
Purdue
Illinois
Iowa.
Northwestern
Nebraska.

I put this together a couple weeks ago during am all day rain. With the talk of how close the scores were when Nebraska lost 9 games, it got me to thinking about how teams have faired historically. This is the Big Ten's 20+ years numbers, from 2001 to 2021, including all CCG and bowl games. I apologize un advance for any errors. I set the number for 1 score loss at 7 points.

Team total losses 1 score losses %

Illinois 158 36 22.8
Indiana 157 49 31.2
Iowa 91 53 58.2
Maryland 129 38 29.4
Michigan 90 42 46.7
Michigan St 103 41 39.8
Minnesota 125 47 37.6
Nebraska 110 51 46.3
Northwestern 124 36 29.0
Ohio St. 42 24 57.1
Penn St. 92 44 47.8
Purdue 142 58 40.8
Rutgers 144 40 27.8
Wisconsin 83 44 53.0

One little factoid, Iowa had 5 seasons where every one of their losses was by 7 points or less, including a 3 year run from 2008-2010.

You smokin' crack, dude.

You gotta put Nebraska last since they're (0-7) against Iowa since 2014 and (0-4) against Iowa under this current regime with a now new HC.

And they are still looking better than Iowa after 2 weeks.

I mean that isn't too surprising but it's frost compelte inability to win one score game

you're really that high on maryland?

Iowa's still better in the trenches than Nebraska.
Games are won in the trenches and Ferentz knows they don't have to be flashy on offense to get a win against Nebraska. Just beat the lines down and let Nebraska fuck themselves into the loss.

This isn't hard.

It wasn't really aimed at Frost, but just the conversation brought this question to mind. I am always interested in "what could have been" scenarios.

I need to do a study on 1 score wins next. Might be some more info there.

Not really. Just how they look after the first few weeks. Minnesota and Maryland have played weak teams and dominated. I realize some teams I have are high now but will fall and some teams that are low will probably finish better (Iowa is one of those, I hope).

When I do a power rankings, I try to do what they have done last few weeks. So, I try not to do what happens now to influence the rankings in November. But here in a few weeks, teams will start playing tougher competition.

I tried basing my power rankings just off the first few weeks. Nebraska has looked better through that. Like I just said in my last post, I try to base my power rankings on just a few weeks.
