Electric Cars

So McDonalds or your 3 star Michelin place are excited to have people clog their tables for 2-5x longer because #BigCharger is approaching them to dig up and reconfigure their parking lots for free?
Nope, the thought process is as more places add these you don't need 2-3 hours to charge. You are zipping from place to place and getting a near constant trickle charge, then top up overnight at home.

In my mind it is essentially covered parking. The cover is a solar array that powers the inductive charging underneath it. Who covers maintenance I have no idea, but they have parking garages today that already tell you where the open spots are, so should be similar MX to that.
I guess that works for the people on night shift.

Employees can have different chargers since they will be there 4-8 hours. No different than the blue line big box stores have in their lots today.

I...guess.

I still just seeing this being a logistical nightmare with how fast people like Maize and #BigCharger want to run with it.

There seems to be two trains of thought:
- Chargers need to be EVERYWHERE.
- The technology is pretty shit right now.

So, we put a bajillion chargers out there at warp speed, then we're perpetually seeing better technology rolling out. Is #BigCharger gonna be working to update/replace these things every couple years? Are only new installations going to get the improved tech?

I was talking about apartments, you said covered parking with solar arrays. People usually are gone during the day and home at night when it's dark.

amonia fuel cells are the future, once they get to the point you can just swap them out and they are stable and good to go.

that's because you are an idiot.

yes, it is going to take work and a new infrastructure, but it isn't totally out of the question.

they recently tore down a parking garage in Annapolis to do just this

“When the garage is complete, it will be an amazing asset with more parking spaces, stormwater controls and environmental features including a solar roof, EV chargers, easier payments, better lighting, and more safety features. This will be a structure that takes Annapolis into the future."

Same thing happened when we went from horses to cars. But you know what? Capitalism is a thing, and when there is a buck to be made by offering a convenience then business will provide. It's how we got random gas stations along Route 66 in the middle of nowhere.

I meant covered arrays at stores. People at home are still on their own. But I could see it being billable electric at the parking spot for apartments or homes.

but what are we going to do with all these VHS tapes and non-bluray DVDs?!

hardly a comparison. pfffffffffffft ev to ic is nowhere near the same level of technological advance, more of a substitution

it's a joke, dickbag.

True.

There's just so much uncertainty in all of it.

I, at this point, just picture a bunch of liability scenarios out there from the unknowns.

I don't know why I respond to your posts...but what you post is just so ridiculous sometimes.

it isn't for you to figure out. Just go with it. Someone else is thinking about all that for you. They will figure out how to upgrade the charging stations, they will figure out where they will be and what is most convenient for the drivers.

all you have to do is plug in your car when you need a charge.

Agree. And none of this is going to happen overnight. Even when we are talking about making the change "soon", that means the next 20 years. Even then it will be a blended change over with early adopters and resistors. Of course once we have self driving cars we won't be able to see the full benefit until all the "dumb cars" are off the road.

With the charger at home I don’t anticipate ever going to a public charger out of need unless for some reason we take it on a longer trip. The big thing is getting a charger at home. When you have that public chargers only matter if you travel beyond the range.

…and if you want a longer trip?
