Next Nebraska Head Coach

Asking around. It appears that it's Matt Rhule. No real evidence, just word of mouth.

Looks like Wisconsin named Jim Leonhard the permanent coach of the Badgers.

I keep hearing Auburn will name someone before Thanksgiving.

Both Lane Kiffin and Mark Stoops have contracts on their desks that are going to pay them 9 million a year to stay put. So I'm thinking 9 million is the going rate for an established coach at this point.

Rumors circulating today says Rhule is out. Take it for what it’s worth as everyone seems to have a source and scoop these days.

Well I am somewhat happy about that. The level of certainty has me worried. Is Trev getting turned down a lot? That could be troublesome.

90% of what you read in the media on these things is crap.

Until they make an announcement you never know and will never know the details.

Well we don't want to end up with another Mike Riley.

I think not hiring Matt Rhule is a good thing for Nebraska. The last thing Nebraska wants is a coach who doesn't like recruiting. They have to find someone who is willing to put in the extra work and really sell the program and school. From the comments about Rhule -- he wants to recruit locally

There ain’t damn thing you can do if that is who they hire.

I think it's someone who is still currently coaching, so there won't be an announcement until Saturday night or Sunday at the earliest.
I also think that all of the different names being rumored are out there on purpose.

“They” think Rhule is holding out for the aTm job that isn’t open.

From Dirk Chatelain of the OWH

"The Huskers have endured separate losing streaks of 10 games, four, seven and (currently) five. They’ve lost 21 straight against ranked opponents. And on and on…
But of all the jaw-dropping, gut-punching, soul-crushing facts illustrating recent Husker futility, I doubt anything captures it quite like Nebraska’s record against arguably the worst division in major-conference football — the Big Ten West.

In the last 20 games against divisional competition, Nebraska is 2-18.

That’s bad, right? It gets worse.
A whopping 14 of those 20 games came down to one possession. Eight points or less.
And what is Nebraska’s record in those one-possession games?
0-14.
Impossible, right? You would think! It gets worse.

In those 14 games, the first three quarters were almost a dead heat. Opponents collectively outscored Nebraska 272-257. Basically one point per game.
What happened in the final quarter? The 14 foes collectively outscored Nebraska 117-53. Six times Nebraska didn’t score in the fourth quarter.

It gets worse. Because 12 times in those 14 games, Nebraska’s offense took the field with fewer than 5 minutes to go, needing one successful drive to tie or take the lead. How many times did NU score? Zero.

It gets worse. The Husker offense recorded a safety during one of those 12 possessions (at Minnesota 2021), so it actually scored more points for the opponent than it scored.

0-for-12. Minus-2 points.

How did those possessions end? Five fourth-down failures, two interceptions, two punts, one fumble, one safety and one clock expiration.

It gets worse. Much worse.

In those same 14 games, Nebraska’s defense had multiple chances to perform in the clutch, too. Seven times during the final 5 minutes, the opponent had possession tied or within one score.

How often did Nebraska’s defense surrender the go-ahead points? Five times out of seven. That’s four go-ahead touchdowns and a buzzer-beating field goal."

82 teams are going bowling.......

that hurts

Normally I would say we didn't earn it and I don't want to go bowling but if Auburn has a shot then I want Cadillac to get to coach a bowl game. He might not get another shot and it's a feel-good story for all of college football.

Coach “K” is in town interviewing & here’s a picture of him sporting Husker red. I don’t want to jinx it just yet.
