Big 12 thread

We just can't get there can we?

It's not the Big 12 that wants that. They get $168 million if TX/OU leave early. They're also getting a hefty raise from their 2026 media rights contract without TX/OU.
We all heard how devastating TX/OU's departure would be to the Big 12's next media rights contract. That they would become a G5 conference, and they'd be lucky to get $25 million per team. Remember that? I do.
It didn't happen. They got a raise from $42 million to $50 million without TX/OU.

The only entities that are out anything if TX/OU leave early are tejas, Oklahoma, and FOX.
tejas would be out $84 million
Oklahoma would be out $84 million
FOX would be out whatever revenue TX/OU would have generated. They already reported OU's media revenue production was down "significantly" this past season anyway, and the Hateful 8's media revenue production was up 50%. That's because TCU, K State, Baylor, and Okie Jr are running the show now.
The Big 12 gets whatever revenue TX/OU generates if they stay for 2024/2025, or they get paid $168 million if TX/OU leave early.

It's win/win for the Big 12. They are the ultimate authority.
ESPN is the one that is paying the majority of the "hefty raise".. not Fox.. I think fox is paying a third of that and will not get first dibs on games of the week anymore. They do, however, get more basketball games.. Sure the 50 mil sounds good (with the expected CFP money), but its Well..WELL behind what the BiG and SEC are going to be paying out.

So yeah the teams in the Big12 will all benefit of a "hefty raise" thanks to the CFP and having all 3 tiers of its rights with ESPN/Fox..

So they will continue to be making more than the Pac and ACC.. just as before.. but even further behind the other two conferences who have signed the monster deals.

I don't hate the Big 12 conference, just know it wasn't sustainable financially.. had nothing to do with onfield, on court performances.

I'm sure the news of the one year early departure will get leaked soon enough and we'll see how they settled on it

It would have been even with TX/OU there in 2026.

no it wouldn't lol.. UT requested for ESPN and Fox to begin early discussions about the next contract. They were denied. They (UT and ou) went about and talked to industry experts on what they could expect.. and they both did not like the feedback. That's when they began to discuss which conference made financially sense and program fits.

How on earth would a conference that has two bluebloods (UT/ou) have commanded a deal like what CBS/NBC/FOX gave the BiG or what ESPN gave up for the SEC? Who carries ratings or a national follow? It's UT/ou... then ?? kansas as a bball school?

BiG has 3 bluebloods and another elite program who is a tier just below (historically)

SEC has 1 true blue blood but also have schools that can make arguments (FL, LSU) and have huge brands and following like TN, UGA... and some nutsos like @Wild Turkey at Auburn

And the Big 12 has Texas Tech? Oklahoma St? Baylor? Kansas St?

Nobody wanted those schools remaining in realignment, not even a powerhouse Blue Blood bball program like KU. So I really am not in the belief that had UT and ou stayed, the conference would have a deal even remotley close to what the BiG/SEC will be getting (100mil). Even with LHN.. the gap between UT and the other two conferences for media deals would be at least 25 mil apart.

Hell they wouldn't be close if atm, mizzu, cu (lol) and nu had stayed

That's what I said.

yep.. and ESPN is like whatever.. man it's gonna get settled but as bad as I'm ready to leave.. I hope they don't do something dumb like make future OOC games to whomever the Big12 wants UT or ou to play from their conference

Rather just play out the next two seasons, then be done with it all. No more carrying everyone in the state of TX that nobody else seems to really want. Sure there are passionate fanbases, but they don't add value.. UT seems to churn money but with how these new deals are working.. They had to go elsewhere.. Honestly I think this happens even if the original Big12 was still together.. UT,ou, aggy and nu wouldn't command the money that the new contracts for the BiG and SEC are getting.
I think you are 100% correct. There would still be a pretty large gap in TV revenue whether those four were still in the Big 12 or not.

:dingdingding:
Having anything whatsoever to do with on field or on court performances being the reason schools are invited was put to bed when the B1G invited Maryland and Rutgers.

Not one person was arguing the B12 was going to be on par with the SEC/B12 financially After you two bolt. But many were arguing and the old Commish stated the remaining teams would only get about half of what they are making now. That was obviously false.

Not Sustainable financially is laughable. You know itll sustain financially.

But I’m happy you finally dropped the “money has nothing to do with it“ bullshit you spewed for a page. And moved onto something else delusional here.

No doubt the Big 12 will be able to survive. Hell, even the G5s survive They are still playing and many are better than schools getting a hell of a lot more money than they are. But that is a looooonnnggg way from being on par with the B1G and SEC money. So.....they can survive, but will they thrive?

again it's not the money.. it's about Fox wanting that inventory for '23, '24... Money is always negotiable (when has it not).. they want the inventory of games. Big12 is telling ESPN, UT and ou.. "hey we are cool with y'all leaving as long as you pay us X amount and make Fox happy.."

As far as the new deal money, the old commish was probably right before the additions of 4 more schools and the implosion of the PAC once SC and UCLA announced they were leaving to the BiG in 2024. CFP deal also will help since that will be distributed as well. So congrats at making around 50 mil.. while the rest hit the 100 mil mark.

Please stop doubling down on stupid. If Texas pays the 84 million tomorrow, there’s nothing fox can say or do to prevent them from leaving. Its really stupid to keep doing this.

Remember when you and few of the land thief retards laughed at the thought of the B12 teams making around 30 million a school when y’all bolt? Well now it’s up to 50. And the rest aren’t hitting the 100 mill mark. Maybe one day the B1G and SEC get there but then the B12 will be Increasing to. It’s laughable to think the PAC or ACC will ever see that. Clarify yourself before putting your foot in your mouth.

Thanks

AGAIN, no one is arguing they will be on par payment wise with the SEC and B1G. Pretending they won’t survive is hilariously stupid though. And with NiL, alls it takes is a few rich boosters to buy their way (ala SMU) to relevance. Arguing any of the P5 are dead imo is foolish.

alright man, guess we'll see what happens in the near future..

and yes I know I was laughing.. but remember that was before SC and UCLA took off to the BiG news came out and before y'all added some schools.. Nobody wanted y'all, nobody.. and still don't. I guess thank ESPN for throwing you a life raft

they are the ones footing the bigger portion of the bill:

For the “A” package, ESPN gets the top four football picks each season, six of the top eight picks, eight of the top 12 picks and 12 of the top 20 picks. As part of the deal, ESPN also gets the rights to the Big 12 football championship game and the basketball tournament championship game. The Big 12’s parity helped convince Fox, whose package includes 26 football games per season that will run on Fox broadcast network and FS1, to do the deal.
Pollard projects the total takeaway for Big 12 schools to reach close to $50 million a year, thanks to CFP and NCAA money.

Maybe now WV can afford to finally buy out it's coach and move on with a better one??

He said the delay was not linked to Texas and OU.

“It has nothing to do with Texas and Oklahoma. They don’t control our scheduling process,” Yormark said. “We want to make sure it’s done in the most appropriate way.”

In the most appropriate way?? lol.. it's a fucking schedule release it like the rest.. UT has already been leaked

Piss on that. You suckers gotta go back to Lubbock.

Well, we weren't last. Thank the lawd for Texas State. The biggest disappointments have to be A&M, Houston and Baylor.

At least they are not making UT play @ Ames to lose the hat-trick game! :)
I'd have to wear an old gnarly hat for that event.

There's no state that is this deep full of teams. Yes UT and aggy should be at the top every year but what other Flagship school and their #2 in state school has this many teams?
