Streaming on HBO and it’s kinda of a horror/thriller with some very dark comedy. It’s creepy quirky but does a good job of building anxiety plus it’s pretty good casting.

If like light horror with creepy vibes this is your movie.

7/10

A Passage to India (3/10)

My expectations were high for light, escapist British raj drama but I almost immediately grew weary of the tiring old castigating of the British for subjecting the poor, innocent Indians. I sat through it but am beating myself up for paying $15 for the rare DVD. Won't ever watch again.

Beautifully shot and acted. Great dialog. Tone is kinda unsettled. It devolves into this weird horror thing, but not in a classical way. Just a bit off.
And then there’s a twist, and it’s like not consequential or something?

I was going to post about the same movie. And ironically was going to go with a 5 or 6

In a way it was very Poe like with some macabre and mystery

Family just watched this last weekend. Christian Bale sucked but the young man who played Poe was awesome.

Agree with ElTexan, the twist seemed tacked on just for the sake of having a twist

It’s like one of those surfer movies made for surfing fans… except for chefs. It’s trope-sy, hits all the usual beats, and uses an unilluminating therapist as a sounding board for the audience. No new ground was tread; not even an attempt. If you disregard Bradley Cooper’s charm, you really have nothing.

The conceit is simple enough, but the execution is great. Pacing, acting, soundtrack all on point. You feel engaged all the way through this horror / social commentary film.

Was a nine for me.

I’ve watched it twice and some change now.

The Hatchet Wielding Hitchhiker.

WTF. This was a dude I remember from Jim Rome and @RobBase (c)

Had no idea there was so much more to Kai. And am left wondering how many other people he drugged, raped and bludgeoned.

Cuz there’s no way it’s just bookends.

7.5. Would’ve been higher if they’d interviewed Jimmy Kimmel or the pimp in the box.

Just so meh. A period piece about an eccentric dude who drew cats. Nothing really lands. Plot points just flicker on the screen from one moment to the next. You never invest.

The unbearable weight of massive talent

Nic cage plays nic cage and young nic cage steals the show.....mindless fun action comedy with over the top moments

Ya, I thought it was great. The casting of Poe was incredible. The dialect is awesome. Kind of sad how far our language has fallen.

Well traveled road: ethnic guy wants to do his own thing but doesn’t want to disappoint more conservative parents with his career choice. There’re times when the movie leans too heavy on the trope, but it’s well-acted and has its own charm. Some cool set piece humor thrown in. Plus wine.

Bullet train

Fun action comedy in the vein of a taratino film set on a Japanese bullet train Lots of big name stars. Some fun death scenes.

Queen Latifah and fam head out on the road to arecas and get caught up in drug money and a murder. You can guess the twist, and no new ground is covered, but the movie has a great tone and keeps you invested. Even when it gets cheesy in the end, it’s fun.

Black pilot in a Korean War era squadron.
In no way is this movie bad. I give it props for keeping things subtle (so many movies would not with such subject matter), but the risk you run in being subtle is never actually grabbing people. This movie just does not until the end.
