PAC News

I am still hearing some rumors of Oregon and Washington to B1G as well. Both are offering to give up revenue sharing to make it profitable (ironically, even if they give up some, they still might be making more money than staying in Pac12).
lol BiG is the most ruthless conference.. they had Nebraska, MD and Rutgers making less than half of what the other schools were making.. they love to tax their new members.

BiG eventually will have to help out the LA schools by adding Oregon, Udub.. possibly one more from the current PAC. And they too will be taxing their asses..

Not entirely sure if they are going to tax the LA schools since they are bringing a lot of value.. I mean so did Rutgers but since they are Rutgers they too couldn't get the full share

I can't even imagine where you are hearing those rumors because they are crap. I'm sure Oregon and Washington would take less money but the B1G isn't interested.
yeah i don't see them adding them in the near future, I don't think they want to be the ones that killed the PAC (even though they helped the LA schools to do it)

I don't think they want them period.

Seattle and Portland are complete shit shows and even though the B1G schools don't come from exactly conservative areas even they realize the situations in those states are bat shit crazy so why let crazy in your door?

Yet LA which is a shit show is coming. Oregon
Has had higher viewership than USC & UCLA for years. The ridiculous politics of the cities have no bearing. Minneapolis is a shit show.

Word on the street:

1. With TX and OU leaving the Big 12 is takings it’s war chest and going to get aggressive with expansion.
2. Reports are ASU is very unhappy with the PAC.
3. Evidently there have been discussions with the SMU to join the PAC but that might be their desperation. However the PAC needs teams and there aren’t many options.
4. PAC still does not have a network deal and no progress has been made.

Factor in their recent financial issues and not receiving network money due to overpayment and the PAC is ripe for raiding. The perfect storm is here and the wind is blowing in the Big 12s direction.

Yikes.
SMU has like a dozen athletic programs and none besides golf are particularly good. Absolutely none draw any attention or fanfare.

i will give SMU this.. if they can get the hire right, they can do well.. Dykes proved that.. they had local kids commit there that were 4 stars.

Depends on how you define "do well".
Under Sonny Dykes, the best they finished in the American Athletic Conf was 3rd. They finished tied for 1st in the Conf USA west in 2009-10 under June Jones. 2009 was their first bowl appearance since 1984.

Support from fans is tepid at best. The only times SMU moved the needle here in dallas in recent memory were when they had Larry Brown as head basketball coach and a handful of football games where they entered ranked in the top 25 or near that number.

Small private school, no money for athletics, little fanfare. There's a reason they were never considered in B12 expansion. And I can't see "Southern Methodist" jiving well with Cal-Berkley in terms of school culture.

The best part of your response is that you completely accept the fact that part of the country is nuts.

I'm sure the B1G would jettison Minnesota if they could.

Politics absolutely comes into it because if there is another COVID type situation it can become very problematic if state governments are putting pressure on schools to cancel seasons and the rest don't want it. The PAC schools still haven't recovered from their shutdown and the B1G almost made the same mistake. So yeah politics matter.

I haven't heard much of the B1G's view point, I just know Oregon and Washington are getting more desperate per the rumors. They are offering less of a cut to make it more attractive.

The B1G not having an active Commissioner is likely slow down anything from their end.

Ohio State did just cancel an OOC game with Washington, not sure if related or not (or if that is even driving the rumors).

EDIT: By the way, what is the point of message boards if not to talk about rumors? There have been some truth to a lot of these rumors and I also think some rumors can be true at the time but people change course, etc. making the rumors false. A lot of decisions are not as planned out as we are sometimes thought to believe.

BTW cancellation information for Ohio State-Washington series is here:

My guess is the B1G is reshuffling their schedules to get rid of divisional play with the additions and they couldn’t guarantee the return date. Plus adding the home game is probably worth 5 million to them so the 500K is about 10% of that.

Let me explain how to do the rumor thing:

1. Find and article that states the rumor and post a link.

2. Then you follow up on that and give your opinion.

Otherwise it’s just pulling stuff out of your butt. For instance I could say “the rumor is Nick Saban is gay” which might be true but I sure as hell can’t support it.

If you link the article at least you have some sort of source. That’s the difference.

ALL sports threads/posts "lead with the rumor"... :dhd:

I can't speak for MD or Rutgers, but I will say the Big 10 was paying Nebraska those years for what they would have been making if they'd stayed in the Big 12.

The move was good for security at the time, and eventually became an economic benefit.

Nebraska got an increase in annual payout each year they were in the Big 10 until they got to full share.
"Nebraska agreed to wait six years to gain a full share of Big Ten revenue. It received $14 million the first year, $15 million last year and will receive no more than $16.9 million this year — each figure roughly $10 million short of a full share."

What about it?
It's exactly what I said. They received a larger share every year before they got full share. They were only getting $9 million a year from the Big 12 the year they left.
They've more than made up the cost of leaving.

Minnesota has been in the B1G since the inception of the conference, so it doesn't matter if they are a shit show.
