Electric Cars

I've seen some stuff on solid state batteries, specifically what Nissan is building, and they're trying to: "We want to get the cost down [compared with standard lithium-ion batteries] by 50 percent, to double the energy density and to offer three times the charging speed."

If they can do that, combined with the motor size, that might mean you could offer CHEAPER EVs compared to gas vehicles that offer about the same fill-up times (~5 min).
I am sure there is a big effort to get away from lithium in the battery world since they are just about everywhere these days

Just saw this, and it shows how quickly the EV world is changing:

"I know what you're thinking—what about the other pieces needed to complete a drive unit like the single-speed transmission, differential, and inverter? Well, that's all included in the 70.5-pound official figure, which makes this all the more impressive."

That's crazy shit.
tiny axle shafts + ungodly torque spells bad news.

So why get rid of it.
Cars have always had upgrades and changes from year to year.

Why not batteries en sech
the new build will be the Chevy Equinox based on GM’s Ultium platform and this will phase out the Bolt’s older battery/motor drivetrain system.

Ah yes, the Equinox. One of like 5 SUV's in the GM lineup that looks the same.

which might be why they are getting rid of the Bolt and going to the Electric Equinox and Blazer.

Yes, they like cookie cutter vehicles.

Not only that, but the Equinox becomes virtually worthless the moment you drive it off the lot.
You can say the same about most GM products.

EV's are increasing in sales.
Says 6% of all car sales in 2022 were EV. I didn't see if this was just personal use vehicles, or if they include commercial fleets.
But it says it's growing, and looks to be accelerating. The numbers look to be 'taking off'.

Some of it might be due to new cars in general are really hard to get, but not sure.

Just heard Ford CEO Jim Farley say that the EV price point will achieve parity with ICE around 2026.

I think these percentages are going to peak then plateau. The US will never be 100%EV. The used EV market will fast become useless as people will demand that a new battery deck be installed and the seller will never do it so you'll never know when your engine will fail completely costing you 20k to fix. Advocates argue that batteries come with an 8 year guarantee, but that's under normal driving conditions. The odds of any EV manufacturer giving you a free battery if it fails after 7 years are pretty small. The used market will be very high risk.

Ford CEO also said that a lot of Ford customers will be late to the EV party because of what they drive, like Commercial and huge SUV's.
Said those would obviously lag behind. And that is a large part of their customer base.

He did say that EV's are perfect for a 2-3 car family where 1 car is perfect for EV use.

Not sure if that's a good testimonial or not.

EV's lose 30% of their range in cold temps, like around freezing, making them pretty useless in blizzard traffic jams. And DON"T use your heater or your fucked!!!!!
