SDSU Not Leaving the Mountain West?

Like I said, they'll add MWC and AAC teams and get their #s back up. The PAC will likely have SDSU and SMU in the fold by then. They could add a few more.
They aren’t getting close to the money the B12 is without Oregon and Washington. Arizona and Colorado will know that and bail. Likely forcing ASU to follow. The MWC will have a chance to add at least 2 from the PAC. Unless the PAC absorbs the MWC, which in that case the MWC should protect itself so they are the ones absorbing.

You are thinking of this as if the conferences are really separate entities from the universities. They aren't. The MWC schools don't want to protect themselves from being absorbed by the PAC, they prefer that.

No, I know it’s the university presidents calling the shots. And it’s a fair point you bring up, but there is no garuntee every MWC team goes to the PAC. The MWC Commish should be hammering this point to some of these schools that may miss out.

I don't know the MWC's contract but my guess is they have a GOR. It's pretty standard with most contracts and they have penalties in place if a school chooses to leave the conference before the contract expires. Do all the school want to agree to a much more punitive GOR? I think Fresno State is hoping they will receive a P5 bid at some point. They probably wouldn't support a change to the GOR, along with SDSU.

Of course SDSU may eventually leave but I don't think that's an existential problem for the MWC.
There is no such thing as “P5” anymore. It is B1G, SEC and everybody else. Ain’t no G5s anymore either. That “group” just got a whole lot bigger than 5.

Whew thank goodness they're not leaving!

I was really stressing out about that.
Wellll.... As long as you weren't "offended" by it! That's a WHOLE different ballgame these days... :heh:

Funny thing is if SDSU does end up in the PAC12, after UCLA and USC leave, they could be the 2nd best school in their conference.
oregon, washington, Utah, and currently Oregon State ask "what?"

so MW is basically treating the situation as if SDSU did say they were leaving and now they owe the MW the 17. so without granting the extension they still gave them an extension?

That's how I'm reading it. It looks like the MWC just granted SDSU an extension but did it in a way to try to make SDSU look bad and not them.

So what would be the process/fee to get them back in the MWC?

Petty, not smart

Look at football and basketball. I also said could. You don't really know until they start playing games. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they are great, but moving conferences won't hurt recruiting, and they are always competitive, and pretty damn good when they do get recruits. We may or may not ever see, so who knows

I don't think wash is all that great. Utah is about the same level, maybe a little better in football. Oregon is up and down, and so is state. Those teams aren't spectacular in my eyes. But my teams suck, so wtf do I know?

So what would be the process/fee to get them back in the MWC?

I don't think there is a fee to join a conference. I'm know the MWC and SDSU have their lawyers viewing the legal document around SDSU's alleged exit.

But it does feel like the MWC will affirm SDSU as a member of the conference on July 17th. I can't imagine a scenario where they don't let SDSU remain a member. So it does feel like an extension for SDSU. If they get a PAC invite before then (which I don't expect), they will accept it.

Big12 needs to strike quickly here.
They check all the boxes for what the B12 has been doing.
G5 with good potential, recruiting grounds, market, AND good basketball?
Big12 needs to make some heads spin here iyam.

How embarrassing.

"We quit! Fuck you guys! We're going to join their group and we don't need you losers anymore so FUCK OFF!

Some time later....

"Uh hey guys....We was only kidding! We want to stay with you guys afterall. Them other guys are assholes..."
Sound like a guy that use to work for me.

not until money starts evening out.
highest paid G5 media is like 7 million per school. pretty sure a couple dont even get 1 million per.
its more like big 2 mid 3 lower 5.

Okay, I'll buy that. But the difference in television revenue between the big 2 and mid 3 ain't "evening out" any more better than the revenue between the mid 3 and lower 5. It very well could be getting more uneven that the other gap.

I agree. Who is leading that conference? They need to light a fire under his ass!

The B12 just added 4 G5s. They should be patient here and see what the PACs doing then wait on ACC leftovers. Adding too many G5s turns a conference into a G5.

These networks arent paying the extra to accompany G5s like they are for P5’s. Plus if the PAC is crippled, SDSU would want in the B12 then.
