"baseball is so much better now"

That square came up a few days ago. I can’t remember who I picked, but it had a low percentage. Probably Benito Santiago

Looks like Gaylord (not Greg) Perry was mine

The two fastest pitches ever recorded in a game were Nolan Ryan (108.1 MPH in 1974) and Bob Feller (107.6 MPH in 1946).
How the hell did Feller's pitch get recorded? The technology was very sketchy even for Ryan.

Anybody throw a screwball any more?

Brent Honeywell is probably still throwing something like a right-handed version of the ol' Fadeaway but I don't know how they classify it.

And then you have fuckers like Ted Williams that would rather fly airplanes than play baseball and then shrink during their only postseason series

This has kinda been overstated for generations. It doesn't take away at all from his military service and contributions but when Ted was recalled he was actually quite pissed off but just decided that he wasn't going to bitch about it. He wrote in his autobiography that he just secretly hoped that some politician would step in and fix it. I'm not really criticizing him at all, I'd have resented it too.

Secretariat had a charmed life. Run fast as a kid then fuck for money the rest of his life.

Even though he didn't turn out to be that great of a sire he didn't even know that, all he understood was all of the fucking that he was doing

I know, I just like that line

I don't understand why we do that to our heroes. He doesn't have to be perfect for us to admire him. Like I said, I'd have been bitter as well. I certainly can't say that I would have made the same positive contributions as Ted did while feeling that way, though

Sometimes I think we care way too much about feelings and not enough about actions.

We seem to do that to individual heroes but not the groups. A large share of the troops that were sent to Iran and Afghanistan didn't want their lives interrupted and were resentful but they are rock stars to the public.

Sounds like he kept on pitching without treatment to the limit with the same thing that has ended Strasburg's career even with treatment, this may not be showing what you think it is about toughness  :noidea:
Still contributed to the end of his career. But you could probably count on one hand the pitchers that have been able to come back from thoracic outlet and be effective. It’s much more of a career killer than Tommy John(well Tommy John is far more common, so has ended more careers, but you have a far better chance had having a a good career after TJ than you do after TO)

But the way the Astros handled Richard was borderline criminal.

There are actually multiple kinds and it's an important distinction. Neurogenic TOS is the "career ender", Vascular TOS is not nearly as hard to return from as a pitcher/ballplayer. I just read about this the other day, let me find it.
